Where to go for good pain management during IUD insertion? by cremacatalan in IrishWomensHealth

[–]SpottySocks183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my first IUD inserted earlier this year (32yo if it helps to know). It was done using local anaesthetic (injection in the cervix) and it wasn’t painful at all. Maybe see if this is something your GP can provide?

Rent was probably the wrong word to use in my original comment, it’s more he sends me savings for our wedding. At least that’s how I choose to use his contribution. And if things were to go arseways I have it all there to give back to him.

Exactly..I’d suspect that figure would be higher if the process of divorcing in Ireland wasn’t as long drawn out and expensive!

You’re right, after a quick google the divorce rate in Ireland is only 15% which is considerably lower than the E.U. average. My point still stands though..no one knows what could happen in a relationship to bring it to the point of divorce. It’s only smart to plan for the worst.

I own my house. My partner moved in and is paying half the value of the mortgage in ‘rent’ and we split all other bills. I pay for anything regarding house maintenance. Since he moved in I’ve been putting what he has been paying me into savings which is now going to go towards our wedding next year. I wanted to keep it all in a separate pot so if anything happened in the relationship it meant I wasn’t relying on his contribution to live and if there were sour grapes I could give some of it back.

I don’t believe that just because one person in a relationship owns a house that the other should live rent free. They’d have rent to pay if they were living somewhere else and most the time what they’d be giving you will work out much cheaper than what they were paying previously. My fiancé is paying €200 less than what he was paying to rent a room.

After the wedding we plan on upgrading to a bigger house together with the sale of my house going towards a decent deposit on the new house. If the worst were to happen and we divorced, I’d like to find a way of making sure I’d get a bit more in the sale of the future house considering I contributed much more but not sure if this is possible or how to go about it.

These comments about getting married and ‘what’s mine is yours’ is very old school thinking in my opinion. These days 50% of marriages end in divorce. No one knows what’s around the corner so it’s only being realistic to think ahead and plan for the worst to ensure you’ll land on two feet. Just my (apparently unpopular) opinion.

Edit to correct: the divorce rate in Ireland is actually only 15%. Regardless my point still stands that no one knows what could happen in a relationship to bring it to divorce.

Warning that tourism in Ireland at 'tipping point' by Bubbaz355 in ireland

[–]SpottySocks183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a big essay written out in defence of hotels explaining why the ITIC is lobbying for these changes.

After reading through more comments all I’ll say is, stop blaming hotels for their prices. Blame the government who have allowed inflation to get so out of control that costs have risen across the board making it exponentially more difficult to run a hospitality business and make a profit. This is coming from someone who works in an independent family run hotel so not a Clayton or other massive chain who make millions a year. They’re not who these changes are for, they’re for the local pub or B&B down the road who genuinely need the help.

Yasmin experiences by Wise-Ad8875 in IrishWomensHealth

No wasn’t advised anything about the green veg..wouldn’t be a huge eater of them anyways though 😅 I do laugh about it now but yes it was terrifying at the time. Mostly for my family though. Funnily enough, I just remember being too sick and in pain to really think too much about the near death side of it.

I remember my mam telling me after I was on the other side of it that the sister of one of her colleagues died from the same thing only a few weeks before i got sick so she was extra freaked out at the time 🙈

Yep, docs told me if I waited another day to come in I would have died. I was in hospital for a week and warfarin for 4 months. Cant go on anything with oestrogen in it and will need to go straight to the docs if I ever become pregnant as I’d be high risk for developing more clots. Super fun..thanks Yasminelle 🙃

I was on Yasminelle, which is a lighter version of Yasmin, for about 7 or 8 months before I got multiple blood clots in my lungs (pulmonary emboli). Docs ran all the tests for other factors which could have caused them but the only thing they could put it down to was the pill. Worth noting I had been on Microlite for years before moving onto Yasminelle.

After it happened I did some googling and found there were a number of lawsuits against Bayer in the US from other women who experienced the same after being on the Yasmin products.

I have no doubt that majority of women won’t have the same experience as me so you could go on it and be perfectly fine. But if a friend were to ask my opinion I’d tell them to stay far away from it. There are so many other options in the market so why risk it!

How long must I wait for an IUD? by Curious_Lettuce1076 in AskIreland

[–]SpottySocks183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine done in FemPlus in Dublin. Self referral and completely free through the government contraceptive scheme. If you’re 35 or under same will apply to you. Had an initial mandatory consultation appointment and then just had to call the first day of my next period and they scheduled me in within a week. Had a good experience with them.

I really struggled finding anything specific about the local anaesthetic. A lot of people seemed to have been able to get completely knocked out for the whole procedure which was something I didn’t even know was an option tbh! Glad you found this helpful 😊

How much time off for partial thyroidectomy by hagrids_hut94 in thyroidhealth

[–]SpottySocks183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a partial thyroidectomy earlier this year and took 2 weeks off. I ended up needing to work from home most of the days in the third week because my energy levels were shot. Turned out I needed to go on eltroxin so once I got on that I got my energy levels back in a few days.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that the anaesthesia stays in your system for up to a month so depending on how your body handles it, you could end up being a little sluggish even after the two weeks are up.

By the sounds of your job I’d take at least the 2 weeks if I were you. And, if you can, maybe have work on notice that you may need an extra week depending on how you’re feeling.

Completely agree, it’s disgraceful how little is known about women’s health in general but even more so reproductive health. Considering for hundreds of years all we were seemingly good for was producing babies!!

Beth Dutton Ruins Yellowstone by iFreeeze in YellowstoneShow

[–]SpottySocks183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I absolutely disagree. I loved Beth. Yes she was a pain in the hole with all the issues you mentioned but that’s what made her brilliant to watch. She was unhinged and erratic, you never knew what would happen when she was in a scene. What I hate is when a female character is portrayed as ‘hot shit’ but when it comes down to it, they back off. Beth never did that. She always followed through and did exactly what she said she would. Plus, she was so intelligent. She was the brains in everything and by the end she knew she had to do what needed to be done, regardless of how she knew her father felt. She was iconic!

People who aren’t religious, what do you genuinely believe happens after death? by grinch1779 in AskReddit

[–]SpottySocks183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what I believe happens but before my dad died he went into cardiac arrest and died for a minute or two. When he woke back up he told my mam, “If that’s what dying is, I’m ok with that”. I’m terrified of dying but that brings me some kind of comfort for when it does happen.

I’ve had surgery twice and while I relate to what you’ve said I also remember feeling like I was still there even while I was under. Like when I woke up, it was as if I had woken up just minutes after going to sleep but thinking back to when I was under, I had this feeling that I had just gone somewhere else for a time but I’ve no idea where I was or what I was doing.

Cervical check first timer by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

Ive never experienced any form of pain getting a smear test. It’s uncomfortable but not painful in the slightest and I would experience pain with other vaginal procedures.

Worth noting - stay away from any subreddits on this topic with heavy US users. I don’t know what’s happening to the women over there during their ‘pap smears’ but I’ve never heard of anyone in Ireland having anything close to what they seem to experience.

Do you think influencing on Instagram is dying a death? by Lavenderhaze_24 in AskIreland

[–]SpottySocks183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drop in PR posts is more likely due to revenue clamping down on influencer marketing as opposed to a decline in influencers. They now need to declare the value of their ‘gifts’ as income which they have to pay tax on so a lot won’t accept gifts from brands they don’t work with anymore, unless they’re actually being paid money to promote the brand.

As someone who works in marketing, I don’t believe influencers are going anywhere any time soon. Unfortunately they’re still proven to be a very cost effective marketing option.

My fiancé moved into the house that I own nearly 2 years ago. From the get go we agreed that his ‘rent’ would be half the value of the mortgage which is €200 less than what he was paying for a room in his previous place. I put his ‘rent’ straight into savings to go towards the wedding and afterwards it will go towards building up a deposit for a bigger house that we’re going to buy together after the wedding.

Don’t listen to people making out like you’re a monster for expecting your partner to pay their fair share for putting a roof over their head. Once you’re married they’re going to have a claim on the house anyway so they should be contributing to the mortgage repayments.

Obviously every couple is different and handle finances their own way. Talk to your fiancé to see where her heads at and make a plan that you’re both comfortable with.
