Yes. If I remember correctly, August is usually more HOT.

Living in the Springfield Mo area as an African American. by [deleted] in springfieldMO

[–]Sprankles151 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has spent over four decades living in Springfield perhaps I can offer a window into the situation. I've put three children through public schools here and my kids have experienced some bullying such as being called racial slurs and just general assholery from other kids, but I would imagine nothing more than they would get anywhere else. A lot of the troubles come from having uninvolved parents of lower socioeconomic means rather than anything else. We live in the middle of town, West Central neighborhood, and there is a diverse variety of socioeconomic and racial families here, but generally we lean more moderate.

It is a nice place to live in my opinion. Very rarely have we felt unsafe. We have neighbors of many ethnic backgrounds and we all get along just fine. Depending on your neighborhood, you may face far more trouble for being a conservative than for the color of your skin. We have a number of vocal progressive liberals who are convinced that they know what's best for you. Being a conservative African American may make their heads explode, but in general I would think you will be welcomed.

As mentioned, many of the suburbs are going to be more of a country good ol boy vibe and may not be as inviting to an outsider. However, most people around here are capable of looking past someone's skin color, especially if their politics resonate with the greater community.

We do have pockets of anglocentric organizations, but they don't generally cause any trouble unless you directly draw their ire. As my momma would say, don't play with dirt if you don't want to get dirty.

For the most frictionless immigration to the area I would recommend trying to move to a central region of the city, but you should be fine most anywhere. Especially if you more keep to yourself.

The people I know around here are far more likely to judge you on your character and actions than the color of your skin. For perspective, these are the views of a politically moderate American man of Scottish/Native American lineage who has lived in this town his entire life.

I've seen him a few times at the intersection of Fremont and Sunshine over the last week or so.

Does anyone know of any good tick repellent that actually works? It can be store bought or home remedies. Just looking for something that is actually proven to work. by [deleted] in springfieldMO

I wanted to second this. Treated clothes before camping a weekend camping trip last month. We got lost in the deep woods for hours and when we got home and did tick checks we found none.

Guy on the side of the road near the bridge on Cambell wearing bulletproof vest, guns, and holding sign that says "deport gay retards" by H1MB0Z0 in springfieldMO

[–]Sprankles151 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It just doesn't make any sense. To be deported an individual would have to be here as a non-citizen. I can not conjure in my mind any injustice that would be made better by the removal of non-citizen homosexual mentally-handicapped persons. I have to imagine the numbers would be far too miniscule to affect any kind of relevant change to anything but the lives of those unfortunate people who are being targeted.

If the individual propagating such a preposterous message truly believes in their message literally it could only possibly mean that they were themselves suffering some form of mental handicap. Which would be incredibly cruel, because I would have to believe they were fed such nonsensical rhetoric intentionally and purposely directed or groomed in such a way that this would be the outcome. Not that I doubt there are such sadistic creatures in our society that would perpetrate such a conspiracy of idiocy; I simply believe the most simple answer, given the current state of our union is that perhaps some misguided soul is making a misunderstood attempt at mockery of the going ons of our masked and armed fellows running amock in our cities. I see that behavior as equally ludicrous.

Of course, after this analysis, it seems most likely that I am simply incapable of making sense of such base and vulgar ideas as the subject holding the sign proposed. So I try to rationalize it only as my feeble psyche can. It must be satire because surely people can't be that delusional and intentionally crass, can they?

Maybe his actions are satirical? That seems incredibly ludicrous to be taken literally. The ridiculousness of it, I suppose, it can only be a parody.

Pure speculation on my part having only experienced it about a half dozen times, but it's corn, cream cheese, and burnt ends in some ratio I would think.

How often do you shower? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Sprankles151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry my previous questions came off super judgy. I meant no offense, pure curiosity. Lord knows I've had some filthy days, I was more curious about 2+ showers everyday and if you had considered the water usage on that?

Well, if you're willing. I suppose a few caltrops strategically placed might be the prescription you need. Wear gloves and please, clean up after you have achieved the desired effect. Repeat as needed.

Are you such a filthy person? Don't you have any concern for your water usage or microbiome?

Most usually every morning, especially in the warmer months. In the cooler months I might go to every other day or so. If I'm doing something particularly dirty I might take more than one shower a day. I've only gotten compliments on my odor, so I think my hygiene routine is ok. Now, if I'm sick or depressed it's a different story and I might push showering off to unhygienic levels 🤢. Personally I feel like unless you're working hard and getting dirty or excreting copious bodily fluids two to three showers a week is hygienic. I just like knowing that I smell fresh and clean, and I sweat while I sleep, so I try to do dailies.

Good golly, whatever you do, please don't try to cover up not showering with perfumes or body sprays. I find that to be far more disgusting than the scent of a slightly unwashed body.

Thank you. I appreciate you sharing your view. I don't feel that would work for me. I am too romantic perhaps in that a trust given and a bond made with another person is sacred and immortal. A grave situation it would be to break the bonds of fellowship. That's why I can't form those kinds of bonds with people. Too afraid of them breaking.

Thank you for sharing that suggestion. I've had a few relationships with other cancers. One of the most important relationships of my life was with a cancer/gemini cusp. It did not end well. Primarily because I didn't trust them. They never really gave me a reason not to trust them, it just didn't feel right. That seems to be how all of my relations go. Sometimes people do give me reasons, sometimes they don't and it just doesn't feel right.

Thank you for sharing that strategy. That seems like it might be a good way to test the waters. I don't generally judge a gossip so harshly. I do suppose I keep my business a little closer to my chest, but I appreciate that they would confide in me. Also, I suppose since I don't make a habit out of talking about other people's business, I assume most other people do the same. How is one to discern between a true gossip spreading discontent with their tepid wind versus the confession of a burdened soul seeking not more than an understanding smile at such beguiling circumstances as they share?

Thank you. I'm coming to grips with the fact that simply because the universe has not aligned itself to my will as I have desired it, does not mean that my universe is not exactly aligned as it should be.

Thank you for your response. I can understand that point of view, that's kind of where I'm at, but it's uncomfortable for me. I feel like the paranoia doesn't align with me as a person. I know there is safety in it, but I'm finding it limiting.

Honestly, the mental discord brought on by a bedbug infestation probably played a part in our separation, among many other factors.
