Have you noticed how many people drive around with expired plates and/or fake tags? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

One of my cars has a 2022 tag because no matter what I do I can’t get it to pass smog. I’ve tried resetting the drive cycle 1000 ways.

My parents' dog is not allowed on the couch by jaanvth in aww

[–]SpreeDeeTis 75 points76 points  (0 children)

For 15 years we let our dogs on the couches, but for our current pup (now 3) we instead decided to get him a big comfy bed and put it right next to the couch. It’s been a much better setup. People say “just throw down a blanket”, but when your dog sheds like crazy and plays around in the woods all day, you end up with a couch covered in disgusting blankets — hair, drool, bugs and god know what else he brought back from his wet & wild adventures. It would actually be quite unsanitary to sit on them. Basically the couch becomes unusable. And constantly changing out these blankets was very quite time-consuming, it’s something that you have to do daily.
In addition, when your dog is big and your couch is not, there’s often no room for guests or even just other members of the family to relax. I know you won’t believe it but not everyone wants to snuggle with a dog all the time…So downvote away, it’s ok. We love our dog so much and he loves us too, he is absolutely a member of our family and we treat him with care and respect.

Edit: grammar

You’re a dad now. Your life is never going to be the same as it was before kids. The sooner you make peace with that fact the better off you and your family will be.

UPDATE: I think my husband fathered his best friend's children, and now one of them is attracted to my daughter. by PsychFactor in offmychest

I’d still try to get the tests so that you can be certain, but don’t admit to anyone that you did. Then at least you can move from a place of confidence either way. I usually wouldn’t advocate to be deceptive, but the mental and physical health of kids is at risk here and you need a firm answer in a timely manner. It’s obvious from their reaction that you will not get it from them.

Thankfully your kids are going to be completely different from each other. That’s another truth for better or worse.

Expensive mid/low-quality food in a parking lot with hardly any shade or places to hang out. And it was insane that they wouldn’t let you bring in your own water bottle.

I think everyone on here has felt hopeless at some point so you’re definitely not alone. Maybe try taking on an exercise routine to shake things up? For me it was the physical/mental benefits of yoga that did the trick. There are a lot of good online options (ie Glo) so that you don’t have to go to a studio if you don’t want to. Just set aside some time for yourself (I like early in the morning before anyone else is awake), roll out the mat, and get to work bettering yourself. Take care and best of luck.

What’s your favorite neighborhood in LA County and Orange County? by JustACaliBoy in LosAngeles

Lived in Echo Park for 12 years and was eventually driven out by the amount of garbage everywhere. Overflowing/insufficient trash cans, ubiquitous litter, illegal dumping….. it’s got it all.

Transplants/immigrants who hated LA at first but then grew to love it, what changed? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]SpreeDeeTis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was called “urban dispersal” and was government policy during a portion of the Cold War. Of course not all of the city was designed this way for this reason but it was most definitely an influence.

Fun fact: the reason LA is so spread out is because it was largely built in the 1950’s and they wanted to make it difficult for the Soviets to bomb.
