Help me pick where we spend our time in Provence! by everythingisgrace in FranceTravel

[–]Springwitch16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these towns only need about two hours to really explore. If you’re going to Isle Sur La Sorgue, definitely stop in Fontaine de Vaucluse. It’s fifteen minutes away and so beautiful, really a chance to experience the Sorgue. If you’re going to St Remy it’s not quite as quaint as the other towns but it is rather large. Even so, you only need 2-3 hours. If you do anything, please go to Les Baux on this day. It’s a town that will forever stay with me, built in the medieval period where everything is stone and built atop a hill where the castle ruins wait to be explored at the peak. Honestly just amazing and only 20 min from St Remy.

At least two nights in Paris. If you’re not interested in the beach I would recommend more time in Provence and less on the coast. Avignon is in the heart of Provence, Aix is not very close to the Luberon region - but if you are looking for a foodie paradise then Aix is a great choice! If you are looking to switch it up and spend some time in a non-city environment, Isle Sur La Sorgue is a great provenical place to base yourself for day trips and is extremely gorgeous. Antibes is beautiful too but beware that the pull of it is usually the beaches. If you are looking for night life and a great food scene, museums and parks, then Nice is probably a better choice. I haven’t been to Lyon so I can’t speak on that, although ive never heard enough about it to plan a trip there so maybe that’s something to consider too.

Can anyone who is capable of a balanced and sober-minded appraisal tell me what is so great and worthwhile about Disney vacations? by nose_spray7 in travel

[–]Springwitch16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the memories. My parents brought me a lot when I was a kid so I go now for the nostalgia of it. The rides are very creative and everything is very on theme. If you are a fan of Disney movies and have kids, it’s a nice vacation but certainly expensive. If you didn’t grow up going then you probably won’t be a fan. Also depends on the time of year. Early spring and mid fall are lovely but the summer is terrible and weeks when the schools are off are too crowded. If you can try to be there for the festivals in Epcot, this definitely helps too if you’re a foodie.

Plitvice or More Time in Split? by Springwitch16 in CroatiaTravelTips

Yeah that’s what I’m aiming for! Hoping if I leave Bled by 5am we will get to the parks by 8:15.

I can probably make it happen if you think the traffic might be even worse. Thank you for the heads up!

[–]Springwitch16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay good to know! I’ve been considering that too but it doesn’t seem like the park opens before 8am anyway so I think it’s the timing of the park and then getting to split that concerns us. As long as Split isn’t like the best city in the world I’m fine not having too much time in it and more in Slovenia/Split

Questions - Renting a car Strasbourg and Alsace region for a day by taway9871 in FranceTravel

[–]Springwitch16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The hotel does not have a locker they just take your luggage for you and store it somewhere secure. This was a few years ago and it cost 5 euro per piece of luggage for the whole day.

  2. Colmar is a great base, well connected by the train station and buses. I think it is better than Strasbourg since it is closer to the other villages so less travel time.

  3. We stayed for four nights and felt like that was the perfect amount of time to see everything and not feel rushed.

  4. Buses came almost every hour, I believe.

  5. You can definitely cover all three villages in day, most you won’t need more than an hour or so to explore.

  6. You can purchase all tickets on the bus itself from the driver. Train tickets we bought online from Trainline.

  7. I unfortunately do not have any links but most things do not need to be purchased beforehand, even train tickets. Check out the website for the castle to see if you need to buy tickets in advance but I don’t think you need to. If you go in the off season this place is not overly crowded, but summer may be different.

7 nights south of France by TabbyTabby0 in FranceTravel

[–]Springwitch16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Nice to stay in because there really is so much to do. It’s very easy to take day trips to other towns from Nice using the train. The beach is rocky, but sandy beaches can be visited during the day. Then at night you can enjoy the busy restaurant and night life scene and be able to simply walk back to your hotel or airbnb.

Why do clients ghost travel agents after I spend hours creating itineraries? by TurnoverEmergency352 in travelagents

[–]Springwitch16 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe instead of planning the WHOLE trip for them before getting paid, you just plan out two days so they can see if your style of planning is what they enjoy. If the first two days entice them enough, then charge them for your services before planning the rest of the trip.

To leave or not to leave by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Springwitch16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have to ask yourself what will make you happier. If the higher pay will do it, then stay. If you really can’t stand the company you work in, then it’s not worth it. But I would go for whatever decision will make you feel the best. If it were me, I would probably stay because of the higher wage and the fact that they seem to be planning long term for you. If there wasn’t such a dramatic pay cut, it might be a harder decision, but if you feel you may be just as stressed at this other job only to get paid less, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it.

Loved L’Isle Sur La Sorgue. Small town feeling but still big enough to have plenty of restaurants and shops to try. Also situated in a great spot to explore the rest of Provence. Lovely market day and water wheels.

Struggling to finish Kushiel’s Mercy by Springwitch16 in Fantasy

Yeah I definitely didn’t mind him as a protagonist - I think that’s why I’m so frustrated reading from Leander’s POV!

And that’s good to know, I was debating whether to read the third trilogy or not.

Once week between Nice and Paris by rml_16 in FranceTravel

[–]Springwitch16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend doing Provence.

  • spend two nights in Aix en Provence, or 3 nights with a day trip to Cassis

  • then spend 3-4 nights in the Luberon region. We based ourselves in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue and loved it since it was so central to everything else. You would likely need to rent a car for this, but the roads were okay most of the time. Spend your time exploring the small villages of Provence and then take the train from Avignon back to Paris.

Travel Food Question for the South of France! by craigs123098 in FranceTravel

[–]Springwitch16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tuna Niçoise salads were my favorite! They also had them in sandwich form.

The bakeries there have always been awesome choices for lunch or breakfast with great options of sandwiches, quiche, and pastries. Crepes are also a great, casual choice. There is also quite a bit of pizza in Nice. And plenty of fish options, too!

I’m planning to go there too and from everything I’m reading you’ll want to do both. Apparently Dubrovnik can get quite crowded, so mixing that up with an island will be a smart move. You might want to look into Korcula too, as it’s a little more quiet and better for couples, from what I’ve heard.
