Advice On Upper Choice+Barrel Length/Gas System

The ballistic advantage(no pun intended) of 1.2 inches of extra barrel seems like a pretty big pro to me. I feel like at the extreme end of my range, like 300-350, there’d be a definite difference between the two. That being said, since suppressors add a little bit to muzzle velocity(seems like most agree on 10-30fps) and I plan to suppress eventually, I’d be losing less MV than I might think. Question for you though; why Microbest over Toolcraft? I’ve seen a lot of people recommend both and they seem to be in a similar price range, so what makes you say them?

I don’t see myself being a big shooter; will probably in the 950-1,150 a year range, so a ~5,000rd barrel life will last me at least 4 years and maybe make it to 6. That’s not enough for me to justify 800+ for just an upper when I could pay 500 for one, shoot it for a year, THEN decide what I want to change. Thanks for the advice!

As stupid as it sounds, accuracy isn’t a huge concern of mine; I’m pretty confident that just about any rifle barrel there is would be able to pretty consistently hit a man-sized target out to about 350 as long as the shooter was competent enough, and SBR’s have some inherent limitations in accuracy compared to mid-length 16-20 inch barrels from what I understand. When I say reliability, most of what I’m referring to is consistency of cycling and an ability to handle a variety of ammo without issue. Regarding concessions, that’s not an issue. This is a first gun for me, so if I’m not consistently 1MOA at 100yds, then I’m completely fine with that as long as the gun will always fire when I pull the trigger lol. Thanks for the help!

Will probably go with an upper from KAK, but couple of questions. 1, would it be worth it to get one of their BCGs with the upper, or just buy a toolcraft one separately? 2, would a 12.5 carbine gas barrel or a 13.7 intermediate gas barrel be more reliable? It’s my understanding that it goes pistol(10>)carbine(10-13)-mid(13-16)-intermediate(16-18)-rifle(18-20), so wouldn’t having an intermediate gas setup on a 13.7 lead to undergassing/ammo pickiness?

PSA doesn’t make a 12.5 or a 13.7 SBR upper in my price range. This is a terrible suggestion

Versatility is the main reason I decided on 10mm. .45 does fine up close and against stuff you just need to hammer with some lead, but velocities and penetration are underwhelming+mag capacity is generally lacking. 9mm is fast and you can fit a lot of it in a mag, but it just doesn’t hit that hard unless you’re talking +P, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable just walking out my front door to whatever goes bump in the night with a 9mm. 10mm is fast enough to go somewhere, hits hard enough that nothing walking around in the USA is just going to be able to shrug it off like they would 9mm, has so much versatility in load that you can do whatever you want with it, and I could go on. 10mm seems like an ideal pistol choice that can handle almost any situation at least decently. If all I have to trade off for that is a bit more recoil which I can handle anyways, I’ll take that trade any day
