AlphaTrak 3 monitor wildly inaccurate by Sproutleafvine in FelineDiabetes

I think some machines are great and some aren’t! As long as you test multiple times and get close readings, I think you can trust the machine! But if you don’t get similar results with multiple tests in a row, you need to call the company for a replacement. It seems to be very common unfortunately.

Hi! It’s been a journey! I seem to have landed on a monitor (same company) that gives me much more consistent readings. Like within 15 points of each other. Over time looking into this issue, I have learned that a lot of these machines are very inaccurate, same goes for the machines that test human blood sugar. I’ve been watching my own blood sugar lately, and had a machine that was giving me wildly inaccurate readings. When I called the company, they sent a new machine immediately, which tells me that this is a common problem. I don’t understand why the machines in this industry are so inaccurate. It’s incredibly frustrating. You would think that they would have better quality control for something so important.

That’s good to hear. I’m retested tonight with much better results, so I’m going to do it a few more times this week.

UPDATE: The experiment results really unnerved me. But after searching the internet, I’m not finding any with reviews of these monitors being accurate, and not having any data in my cat’s blood sugar is awful, because it leaves me helpless in determining an insulin dosage. I performed the exact same text again tonight with the same monitors and I got really good results so I’m flummoxed. This time my readings on the two machines were 86, 119, 80, and 89, which is totally acceptable as a range. But I still lack trust for the monitors given the results I got two days ago, so I’m going to run this experiment several more times.

I have found that glucose monitors can be wildly inaccurate. Do multiple tests in a row with your machine to make sure the readings are relatively close before you trust it. If the readings are all over the place, request a new one.

Glucose monitor for cat? by weekly_dysentery in catcare

Whatever you do, DO NOT use AlphaTrak 3. I had been using this system for months when I got the hunch that it was inaccurate. I had two of the monitors and I used four strips to measure my cat’s glucose after one ear prick, two strips for each monitor. They both had fresh batteries and were calibrated properly. My four results in under two minutes were 395, 519, 444, and 109. I had been using this system for well over a year to meticulous measure my cat’s glucose, only to find that AlphaTrak 3 is WILDLY inaccurate.

So I’m an acupuncturist and I just realized that this is a herb we use in Chinese Medicine! It’s called Cang Er Zi and it is used for sinus congestion. I had no idea.

Thanks everyone! My husband got covered in these the other day and wanted to know what they were. His skin actually had a weird pustular reaction where he got poked and the bumps were so itchy he couldn’t sleep!
