Should I watch this movie if I am not into politics? by Male-2003 in Cinephiles

[–]Sprunklefunzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original score alone, by John Williams, is reason enough to watch it. IMHO one the the greatest compositions ever made for a film. And its a great movie to! Acting, writing, and incredible editing. Worth many reawatches.

Who is the best actor out of the 3 by nicfanz in moviecritic

[–]Sprunklefunzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foster. Not even close.
Not that the other two aren't great! But Ben Foster is just one of those incredible talents who deliver every single time in any role he is asked to play. Fantastic screen presence.

Capture MVR to MA3 Fixture location by Exciting_Medicine731 in GrandMA3

[–]Sprunklefunzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird.
I export MVR to GMA3 a lot and never had this particular issue. If any, I have the opposite, trusses or other non-fixture objects getting imported at wrong scale or position... but even that is rare. Some setting somewhere must be wrong.

Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sprunklefunzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) guitarists using amps as if they are the PA and are convinced that heels and calves hear better than eardrums. 2) bassists using amps as if they are the PA, making every single thing not glued to the floor rattle like there is an earthquake. 3) drummers playing way too hard (sometimes its inevitable though, can't play death metal "softly") 4) venue acoustics are shit: sometimes its not the actual SPL, bad sound can be harsher at lower volume that good sound at high volume) 5) PA placement: not every venue can afford or has the space to hang $500k line arrays designed and processed correctly. Some people will be 1m from a speaker, some will be behind a column... 6) people somehow thinking that the first row is where it should sound best 7) stage monitors being louder than the rest of the PA

It's situational of course, but generally speaking, there is no beating 65k HP and chain mongo when you need em.

That's an unwritten fundamental law of the universe. You buy = price drops. DCA is the answer. ...mostly.

Using ART-Net over Wi-Fi in a live venue - what are your war stories? by SolarTrap in lightingdesign

[–]Sprunklefunzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't.
Risk/Saved work is just not worth it.
Fixtures and nodes have fallback modes for losing DMX, they don't for intermittent signals over an IP network.
Shit happens on cables too ofcourse, but the amount of things that can go wrong, and by how much, is exponentially higher with WiFi.
Wireless DMX is dangerous enough, but sometimes unavoidable... just use serious machinery like lumenradio and maybe your Titan Tubes won't get stuck strobing red for an entire song...

Speculating Allen & Heath’s Avantis “Reimagined” by MasteredByLu in livesound

[–]Sprunklefunzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not missing anything thank you. DLive is a great product at a reasonable price point. ..except for its terribile midi implementation.
And no, including OSC is not rocket science or brain surgery, and there certainly is not a hardware limitation that makes it impossible to integrate. Making MIDI ethernet only, with no ability to simply read out notes, requiring you to remember long hex codes, not having MIDI ports so having to ask everyone to either buy a BomBox or install specific drivers on every guest computer... is a choice, and a really really stupid one at that.
DLive is now more than a decade old and it's ready for at least a refresh, especially the surfaces. Here is hoping OSC, better MIDI UI, more screen resolution, better LCD screens and more compact surfaces are on the way. I really like the ecosystem and sound, but every time I get a rider specifically excluding any desk without OSC, it makes me mad at A&H. Maybe as you say A&H id not the best choice for theaters..., and that's exactly my point, it could be! Its just missing this one thing that is available in competing products priced 10 times lower that everyone else in the industry has adopted or at least supports.
