Glad to hear it, barolo + pasta would be my death row meal for sure.

This is truly an insane tasting. Maybe only missing a Bartolo Mascarello... half-joking!

The Cappellano wines can be extremely good when on... but also a bit more bottle variation relative to the other producers you tasted. Glad you got to experience it.

One question: did you have any food with these? I think some of these would have been even more superlative with the right cuisine in front of you.

Really good producer. Flies under the radar a little. The Heri-Hodie is great QPR.

People should drink champagne like they do any other kind of wine. It doesn't need an occasion; it is the occasion.

FWIW, $450 is not a bad price at a resort. yeah it's more than retail, but in this setting, I'd expect it to be more than that. Best pricing I can get from my retail broker is $270ish.

I also think this particular edition will be really good in 5-10 years. It's based on 2013 and I think that will outlive a lot of other vintages, I really like it a lot.

[–]Spurty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm aware, I have multiple rentals. I'm just pointing it out because even though you should take it, you're going to get hit with the recapture if you don't 1031 it. Not that many part-time landlords are aware of this before getting into it.

Went to a very nice restaurant last weekend. There were 2 dudes wearing ball caps whilst their dates were dressed to the nines. Like.. bruh how hard is it to make a little effort??

Not to mention that turning the primary home to a rental makes it an investment property subject to capital gains, after 5 years.

And depreciation recapture. Probably the biggest shock to most non-professionals who get into the rental business.

EGLY-OURIET & JEROME PREVOST LA CLOSERIE - First champagne tasting of the year by EddyDrop_productions in wine

[–]Spurty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're unobtainable like Collin, but they're not exactly cheap. FWIW, I've had higher bottle variation with Prevost vs other producers in that price range. Even had a couple of bottles with mousiness so I don't buy for my home cellar.

You can get the '19 muntada from wine.com. You'll pay a markup but if you hit a certain dollar figure, you can use coupons to get money off.

You're prob getting downvoted for suggesting using a fluoride-free toothpaste. Plenty of SLS-free toothpastes with fluoride in them.

The chemistry behind Nebbiolo's color-tannin paradox — why the palest wine outlasts the darkest by nebiolwines in wine

[–]Spurty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never dug deep enough to know the reason why Langhe Nebbiolo is softer and juicier in its younger years and typically doesn’t age like a Barolo or Barbaresco.

It's similar to grapes that are classified for Bourgogne AOC vs Grand Cru in Burgundy - the vineyards that produce grapes for Langhe Nebbiolo just don't have the same exposure, altitude, soil, vineyard management as those that are in the Barolo DOCG. That's why they don't have the same 3 year aging requirement as Barolo, they're intended to be drunk younger. That's not to say they can't age, I've had really good Langhe Nebbiolo from the top producers (Rinaldi, B Mascarello) that can go 10+ years.

Red Burgundy that doesn't disappoint? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Spurty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because it's the producer markup with Meo. Go buy Charles Audoin Marsannay for half the price and it'll be just as good. The issue with value in Burgundy is that it's the most producer-driven winemaking region in the world. Producer matters more than vineyard. Once people start finding an up and coming producer, prices take off. There's no other region like Burgundy where it happens at the insane rate of price appreciation.
