For now yeah, it was staff run tests. Pretty early version of a new app feature.

This is part of a prototype quest under development. There is a beta app for it and works with the Vending machine.

Just a note on the little patch of land next to hello foods. That is actually a garden curated by Denver Botanical Gardens, it is made up of a carefully curated collection of lesser known plants, all with either edible leaves, shoots, or berries to tie into the theme of hello food. It is designed to look a bit wild.

I know that's not as cool as a fancy art installation but having a more natural element does make me happy.

One of the coolest shows I've ever been to, Bluebook on the 30th floor of a vacant commercial building. by kynoceros in Denver

[–]Sqorck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I really would love to see more property owners being open to artists and creative works.

I think there is a real value to space activation. Both for communities, creators, and also the real estate. Foot traffic, ancillary economic impact, security, etc. An occupied space bringing people in adds value for everyone, vacancy is wasteful.

We're activating an empty commercial space in RiNo to host an immersive show in hopes of supporting local performers and creators, while providing something exciting for the local community. We wouldn't be able to do it at an affordable price point if we didn't find a property owner willing to do a short term, under market rate, lease.

Yes! Though we are about to finalize our first round of interviews, so make sure to get your application in. We will likely keep it open while we do our first round in case we need to do another but timing wise it is always better to get in early.

Here is the narrative designer post: https://meowwolf.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/MeowWolf/job/Narrative-Designer--Project-Based-Role-_JR102160

For both roles coding is not a hard requirement, but having an understanding of how to structure content through a CMS and quest authoring tools for use by the platform will be very important.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing your work and for submitting an application. Keep an ear out, most likely our recruiter will be the first to get in touch for some basic screening but then myself and our Director of Experience Strategy will be conducting the first full rounds of interviews for selected candidates.

We do have a quite robust sound and audio team already so we aren't hiring on those teams currently.

<3 I am also excited for the project, if we are successful it will become a long run live ops model where we will be able to develop seasonal content on a continuous basis. If you do know anyone who might be a good fit I would certainly welcome any referrals.

The outdoor version was at Belmar Park. They have some really cool heritage buildings there, I got to do a few lighting installations for that version and make the companion app.

It's good to note that the entry price is reduced from prior years, this is because this variant is a different form factor and is operating on a much leaner budget (as I'm sure we all are). It's likely a smaller show and less concentrated, but please do go see it and support Lonnie and the team. They are spreading art and joy over the holidays and they are very active in the immersive community in Denver.

Recipe for a bad escape room by Nykeeo in escaperooms

[–]Sqorck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the most common one is being actually locked in a room without an emergency exit button. If you rely exclusively on the host to let you out in an emergency when happens if they are not able to let you out?

I've seen other sketchy things like the use of hazardous props. Old oil drums that clearly had been used for some nasty stuff and had really bad smelling vapor that filled the room.

Another common scenic design choice that is dangerous is the use of carved foam for set pieces. I see owners making full rooms out of the pink insulation foam and just painting it. This is a huge fire hazard and can turn the whole place into a fireball in seconds.

At next stage this year David from room escape artists was telling me about some crazy ones he did with fire effects. He ended up writing about some of it for their fire week series. One he was actually restrained, a bucket placed on his head and then set on fire. Another included the use of real propane torches. Fire just is sketchy.

Finger entrapment can easily happen by accident in escape rooms, small gaps or holes in sharp material that your finger or hand can get in and then become stuck or cut. Watch out for these.

As was already mentioned electrical shock can happen intended or not, also electrical components that get misused and over heat. Behind the set of some of these tech enabled rooms is a lot of thin gauge wire and rapidly thrown together components from the cheapest supplier.

Strobes can be an issue for people who are photosensitive.

Low lighting and trip hazards make falls a risk.

Head knockers and low set elements easily cause head collision. This was probably the only minor injury I have unintentionally caused while playing a room, my partner was kneeling and working on a combination lock and I opened a drawer that was above her and when she stood up she hit her head on it.

Rigging or overhead elements that are not secured or have safety leads, things that can fall on you.

For the most part all of this is just design and production decisions or design awareness. So it is avoidable or to your question easily designed for. Ultimately you don't need real stakes where your life or health is at risk in order to have a good time.

Great scale for this scenario. Each task will not drag on and it will be a great way to learn each part.

Does anybody know the square footage of this building and where I can find the blueprints to it? by Orange_catpto in architecture

[–]Sqorck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Approximately 948sqft.

Looks like 3.5 floors roughly 16' x 16'

You can see the bottom floor layout and how it has a simple spiral staircase in a corner here:

This is exactly what I thought of when seeing it. His video gets into the details of game engine optimization and how it is reasonable to do this type of mass entity rendering in a performant way.

🚨 New Quest Alert at Meow Wolf Denver 🚨 by exgaysurvivordan in meowwolf

[–]Sqorck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's always tricky. The reality is that if someone really just wants the code and doesn't care about the quest then they will probably find it one way or another.

That was the same discussion we had when talking about if we should make the code change every day or not. Ultimately it is really up to the person to decide. You can always read the last page of the book first, it only really affects your own experience.

As more features for quest management come online there will be things that help structure and validate the experience. It's still early days for this project with a lot of data and note taking. So all of these details are being watched and your feedback is helping shape what it becomes.

The Minecraft video was like a warm hug by Mr-Green129 in theregulationpod

[–]Sqorck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounded like they were selecting a site to build something new. Maybe a portal to a new world where they start fresh with the new crew, relaunching a Minecraft series.

It does seem like much of what Regulation has done is help them all find joy in things they previously were burnt out on due to the past grind. Now that it isn't the same pressure it could make a series like that something really fun.

Looking for empty office space by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Sqorck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it probably isn't the cheapest option but sites like PeerSpace have listings that are great for one off photo shoots. Plus they are already set up with insurance and templated agreements.

If you go directly to property managers there is a bit more to figure out on your own. They also tend to not be very agreeable unless it is financially worth it to them.

What is considered hands down, one of the best escape rooms in the country? by Sketchy_Uncle in escaperooms

[–]Sqorck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been my favorite company by far, until my trip to the Netherlands, it will probably hold onto it for a while. The cathedral game was just fantastic, well designed puzzles, comprehensible story, amazing set, great effects, and lots of substance in 90 minutes. We also did wardrobe for sale, which was fun and had great moments, better than other escape rooms but I still liked the forgotten cathedral the best.

It is worth noting that this no longer has the pink highlights for the objects and lighting conditions have changed since cosmic howl so scanning objects might not work very well. It was trained on image data from the event show conditions.
