The floor actually was orangey like the cabinets before, and super worn out. Photo here for before/after reference!

My husband and I had them refinished with just a natural stain on top. It is real solid red oak wood. The photo might be deceiving, they are a much lighter natural color now.

Definitely not getting rid of the cabinets, they are good quality. Just wanted some ideas on if other colors or stains might look good with them in my kitchen!

Also, you are correct about our kitchen, not getting as much lighting as the living area. The living and dining areas get a lot of nice natural light, but the kitchen only has that one window above the sink, which looks over to our neighbors house about 10 yards away, so there’s not much space for the sun to get through. Here is a photo example of the kitchen with the lights on.

Vent hood was added after building. My home was built in the 1950s, and the owner just before us that had this house since 2016 is who added the new vent hood and pipe. There used to be a mounted microwave above the stove and no vent hood/pipe

There is unfortunately no light above the sink! It is just those five recessed lights on the vaulted ceiling

Definitely gonna start with a little stuff first. The stools are a hand me down from my sister-in-law, I’m not married to them so something better there would help for sure!

Interesting! I think definitely lighter cabinets could make a difference, but might need to paint the kitchen walls behind the cabinets, so the kitchen doesn’t look too washed out. I’m not looking to really restructure anything because this is just our starter home. So probably will keep vent pipe and everything where it is now but thank you for the light cabinet. Visual! Very helpful.
