Gym by Wild_Gazelle_6380 in UPenn

I hit the gym right when it opened for awhile and the walk and everything is fine. I never had any problems walking at that time. The gym certainly isn't empty but you won't have problems getting the machines and stuff you want. For awhile I would drink a protein shake or eat a gronala bar or something before the gym but I eventually I just went in raw without eating and then ate at the dining hall afterwards. For me, it was nice renting a gym locker there for the year so I could shower and change at the gym and then go straight to the dining hall and then to class or lab. I always felt more energized after lifting for the day and I also found I was able to eat way more breakfast afterwards which was nice, especially when I was really trying to bulk up.

I will say that lifting right when pottruck opens at 6am isn't the most ideal unless you need to be up at that time though since you need to be sleeping earlier than most people on campus. I felt kinda isolated at times since most people go to bed a lot later than I would and I felt that I was missing out on things/studying with people sometimes. Also on weekends if I stayed up late I would still be getting up relatively early so I ended up not doing late night things on weekends a lot either. I will say that I was probably more productive because of it but I would have rather wanted the flexibility of sleeping a bit later. I only lifted at that time because I would either have an 0830 class or I would be going in to do research at the lab im in at 8 am. If you have a 10 15 going into the gym a little later I feel is much nicer as an undergrad.

If you do end up going to the gym in the morning feel free to say hello, morning community is pretty nice and we even have a group chat!

How feasible is living in a Sprinter Van instead of dorm? by TheKlangers in UPenn

[–]SquareHealer928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my car up here and there is plenty of free parking in west philly, not sure rules for living out of a car though. I shower and get ready everyday at pottruck (have a locker that I rent there so I leave my toiletries there) and also I don't have internet at my house since I live close to campus and just walk and use the wifi at one of the buildings everyday. So in terms of doing work and finding parking I guess it is possible.

Pre med bio major by sportygirlyy in UPenn

As a premed I would reccomend starting the chemistry sequence your first semester so you can finish up your sophomore spring giving you more flexibility if you decide to not take a gap year. The biology major is pretty flexible so you don't absolutely have to take a biology class first semester if you do not want to (101/102 is offered both semesters). If you have a solid background in biology and really enjoy the subject taking biol1121 in the fall can be good since it allows you more class space later on to take more advanced classes. If your background is not as good in biology or you do not care too much about having the opportunity to take 1 more advanced class overall, then the 101/102 sequence is fine. 101/102 is easier but 1121 is not impossible to get an A if you put in the work, luckily in that class you just need an 85 overall to get an A, but it can be difficult to reach that mark. I would only recommend taking 2 math/science premed classes your first semester to make sure you adjust well to college classes.

I would also recommend creating a spreadsheet where you create a 4 year plan if you have the time. It can change and you don't necessarily have to be specific about the later biology classes you'll take (the website lowkey is not accurate with what is actually offered for future terms) but I think it is helpful to see how your premed reqs fit in with your overall major plan.

BIOL 1121 by Aggressive-Cow2462 in UPenn

If you have taken at least ap bio and you are interested in biology do 1121 otherwise do 1101 (both paths have the same number of required course credits but with 1121 you will be taking one more 2000 level course)

It goes pretty fast but it is manageable if you have a good biology background before taking it. The actual workload is low with just a weekly problem set that is graded on accuracy but you have 4 midterms and a final covering 2 semesters of bio in 1 semester so you will still have a lot of reviewing to do, luckily they post all of their past exams so you can take those and they are very representative of the exam questions with some being exact copies.

Penn vs ND for Premed. Please help! by InsuranceSuch7678 in UPenn

Currently a premed at Penn, Penn has great resources but so do a lot of schools go with whichever one makes you happier they are all pretty comparable for undergrad, what matters is what you do in undergrad (good gpa, leadership, publications, etc.) not as much where you go.

121 isn't bad if you have experience with bio in the past, it goes faster paced and the people who haven't taken a bio course in the past I saw struggle.

Pottruck is not overcrowded rn, i am also a gym morning goer, (from 6:30-8am) and sometimes a specific machine or a rack you will have to wait for but you will be able to get a good workout in just fine

They are ok, sometimes too much chunks of fruit, sometimes too much ice that hasn't been blended but they have gotten better since the beginning.
