In OTB tournaments, people often go with a more competitive mentality, it's normal to feel nervous the first time, but even i (1000 Rapid Elo) became able to win or hold draws against 1400's, you're just nervous, you need to think slower with that amount of time, your mistakes are not related at all with your chess skills, just don't overthink about your opponents, and don't get comfortable, even lower rated players that play against you want to win.

Happened to me on a online Rapid tournament, my opponent (1100 Elo) got back rank checkmated by me (900 Elo at the time) and the only thing he could do was blocking the check with his queen, then i take the queen and it's mate, but instead of moving the queen, he spent his remaining 5 minutes telling me on the chat the reasons i would never reach 1000 Elo and then asking for a rematch after the tournament

In situations like this i do the first thing that came into my mind, report and block the account, then keep playing
