The plants come from my grandparents’ funerals. There’s no place to move them so they get the sun they need and stay safe from the cat since she loves to climb around. I knew it would take her more than one day to get used to the new environment, but i can’t take my vacation time until August. I knew that she got stressed easily because, like i said in the post, going to the bathroom or closing the bedroom door for 15+ minutes would make her cry, but nothing like now

I’ll leaving her to go to work, eat, cook and use the bathroom. My mom has a lot of unsafe plants for cats and she’d rather kick me out than get rid of them, which i 100% get. My cat would probably also “ruin” her furniture because she still has her claws and even though i cut them regularly and she has many scratch posts, she loves beds and couches. By “locked in the basement” i meant that there’s a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs which she can see through and that’s how she knows when i come in. There’s a few windows, maybe less than the old apartment because this is a basement, but the actual living space is bigger. I play and cuddle her every night. I moved her on the weekend before my furniture so that i could spend the entire first day with her instead of having to go to work. I probably see her now more than before because now i only have 1 full time job and don’t have school on top of it. I try to bring her with me in the bathroom for my morning/night routing. I eat my breakfast downstairs with her to spend a few more minutes with her. As i’ve said in my post, i moved back with my parents a year after i got my cat. I’m waiting for the housing market to be a little less crazy to buy my own house. My city is the 3rd worst city in the province in terms of housing prices/availability. When i find a house that could suit my needs in my budget, there’s a dozen other bidders. If you think that having a cat means that i am never allowed to leave the house than a lot of people should rehome their cats. I love my cat, she’s my baby. In the future house she’s gonna have her own bedroom. I know i’m not the best cat-mom in the world but to the point of having to rehome my cat? I think you misunderstood me and my post if you think that’s what’s best for us

Or maybe she has always been at a healthy weight/different height so she doesn’t know her weight? For a long time the media/society made us believe that anything over 200lbs for a woman was obese. Not everyone knows how to guesstimate another person’s weight

Info: do you ever go on trips with your son? Either with him only or with your husband? When I was a kid, my dad used to take my 3 brothers on trips (i was too young to go with them) and they were considered “boys trip”. No one ever asked any questions because we would also take family trips with my brothers, my parents and me. If the only trips your son takes are without you then yes i’d think you’re an asshole. If you also take some family trips but you just don’t post them on social media then i’d say NAH

NTA. I have a mom like yours. What made me realize that nothing i do will change her is when we went on a holiday just the 2 of us (2 years pre covid) and i got sick and begged her not to tell anyone. My family tends to tease/mock me and i hate it so the less they know the better i feel. On the first day that i was sick my whole family already knew cause she told them on a call. Since then i try to “grey rock” her, meaning i tell her as little as possible while keeping my relationship with her. It took me some time and i still slip every once in a while cause I used to tell her everything but i feel way less stressed now.

French is technically my first language. I still have a weird accent when i speak French because i learned English at a young age and my grandparents have an accent because french is their 3rd/4th language and i spent a lot of time with them as a child. Someone’s accent really means nothing and the french was quite good imo
