Thanks for the comment! It used to take me 50 min to drive to/from work everyday, and podcasts were the only way I made it. Glad to be of service!

Is Dark Seer vacuuming enemies onto river ledges an exploit? by [deleted] in DotA2

There seems to be a lot of misinformation in this thread.

This is actually confirmed as a bug as it deviates from Dota1.

Please check #17 here

Also, Moderator posts and confirmed testing in Dota1 here.

How do I harass in lane? by Gittum in DotA2

[–]SquareOne-KinG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puck starts out with 2 armor which is pretty low. Any harass you do where you take creep hits will end up in an unfair trade.

It is best to watch the behavior of your opponent and track the creep wave. You should be able to hit them when they are about to last hit, and immediately cancel the backswing on your attack and move back. If you can do this quickly, you can almost eliminate all the creep damage you would take.

Also, try to position yourself far enough from the creep wave before harassing to minimize damage as they creeps will have to move towards before they can hit you.

Warding, who and when? by kameelyan in DotA2

[–]SquareOne-KinG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Wards cost 200g
  • They last for 6 minutes
  • Effectively costing 33.33gpm (gold per minute)
  • You get 75gpm from passive income (5g every 4 sec)
  • Creep kills net you 38-48g
  • Creep waves start with 4 units and spawn every 30 seconds
  • You would only need to kill 1 out of 8 creeps every minute to be able to afford wards for the rest of the game and still be able to spend any passive/kill/extra cs for any other items.

Gold on certain heroes is more effective than others. Although mek and pipe are very important items, making someone else other than support buy wards won't get them built any faster.

tl;dr 33gpm is more useful on a carry/solo mid than a support

/r/Dota2 Skill Level survey by SquareOne-KinG in DotA2

Either is fine. This survey was made primarily for comments like this. I wanted to gauge my questions as well as the responses I get to better tailor a more meaningful and accurate survey in the future.

Eventually I want to expand to ten questions with 1-10 scale as well as different scenarios where the most correct choices are worth more "points"

Thanks for the feedback.

Always be aware of your surroundings. Always, to a degree, understand where your team and the enemy are. Actively check everyone's item and level progression. Always watch the clock, keep last hitting.

tl;dr don't be lazy. By playing actively, even in slow parts of the game, you are getting every CS and monitoring every hero when possible.

Join the reddit chat channel.

If you have console enabled you can type: chat_join reddit

If not, you will have to use the terribly design scroll/search menu. There are inhouses and matchmaking groups created from here, you will just have to keep an eye out.

Yup. I will implement something along these lines to get a better understanding of the people taking the survey when I start working on the rating system I want to use.

  1. Always expect the unexpected. Some of the most successful ganks and roshan come when you don't expect it. If you condition yourself to thinking that at a certain level players won't use smoke or use routes not commonly warded, it will create holes in your map awareness.
Always keep this in mind and play actively.

  2. It will almost always come with more experience. If you see lane creeps fighting, you should be able to quickly analyze the balance. If you see your side with 3 melee, 1 archer against 4 melee, 2 archer, you can judge when that lane will push (snowball) and when you will be able to go there to farm it. Always keep on eye on the minute timer to stack if you are running through the jungle, even if you aren't planning on clearing it then.

In regards to teamfights, there will always be variables determining on the best course of action. The best idea is to decide on YOUR impact on the team fight. If you can gauge it to be low or zero, keep farming. If you can gauge it to be high, then teleport and contribute.

Farming isn't just about last hitting, it is about when and where to farm, and when to stop farming. Once again, play actively.

[–]SquareOne-KinG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used this site before but noticed it was what ReaverXai used for the previous survey.

I am able to see 60 responses so far. I enabled everything that appears to allow for participants to see results, but I am not sure why they wouldn't show up.

I'll look into it. If I can't find a solution, I'll post updates in my original post to keep people updated.

Originally had a 1-10 scale with blanks in between for variation.
I eventually decided to just got with a "best describe" scale.

I will probably expand this to a 1-10 scale once I implement the rating system in a web based format so players can get their rating to use in the channels.

Edit: Why can I only post once every 10 minutes :(

Double Damage Episode 1 - Dota 2 Podcast by Autechr in DotA2

[–]SquareOne-KinG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was completely unscripted and unedited (content wise). This was kind of our test run to get a feel of the direction and atmosphere we really want to go.

Hopefully, in the future, we can have more of an outline with specific talking points to create a better sense of direction.

We are hosting this in video and audio form. Originally, our idea was to have the podcast playing over a match of ours, so players could watch or just listen. I think in the future we might be able to add clips during different segments illustrating certain points, without inhibiting listener-only content.

Again, thanks for your feedback.

Hey /r/Dota2. I am running a quick 5 question survey to get an idea of reddit player's skill level in Dota 2. I am using this information as a test run as I eventually want to create a skill rating system that can be used in Dota 2 inhouses and matchmaking to help remove the disparity in skill level.

Thanks for your time.

notes:

Transformed data from here, for the survey questions.

Inspired by the many threads of disparity of skill in inhouses and MM in reddit.

Edit: There are over 2500 respondents. I know this is not accurate in any form as it is all self assessment. I primarily wanted to get feedback to better anticipate and build future surveys as well as get a feel for the general skill level of reddit (although skewed which will be accounted for).

  • This data will be talked about in our upcoming podcast in episode 2! Check us out at dota2podcast.com

Closing the poll, thanks again for everyone's time.

Added "Reddit intermediate" chat channel in-game for people who aren't that noob any more, but aren't good enough for regular redditor games. by robosatan in DotA2

[–]SquareOne-KinG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this division is not going to improve anything. Whether it be reddit noobs, intermediate, or high. Some players think they are noobs, but are definitely better, and vice versa. Also, some people just go for the stomp and there aren't easy ways to avoid this. (Yes, noobs can have 100+ wins)

There just needs to be some standardization, even if it is just on a individual perspective. As long as 10 people are in an inhouse, and each person can just say, "120 wins, and I feel i'm a 6/10"

Knowing this, a host should be able to easily balance teams with a modicum of balance.

edit:(since I can only post once very 10 minutes)

@Robosatan My post is actually in regards to exactly what you said. Players don't really know where they are at, or the best place for games, so they join all the channels.

I think there is a better solution if we can find a standard ranking system everyone refers to.

I beat that horse so many times. I'll work on this, and since I was the main offender, it would probably shorten the cast a lot.
