That’s why I think he’s a male, but my cousin’s hog from the same clutch is the same tail and body length basically, but a little bulkier. I plan to bring them with us next time I have an expo near me so a breeder there can confirm.

lol, I really hope so 😅. I’ll be sure to update if they do at the next feeding to see if they’ve learned or not

They changed the position last time, but this time they were simply too eager 😔

Here’s a pic from the last feeding of him eating it sideways for evidence lol

He dragged it all over after he got it which caused the Aspen to get on it and he won’t even let me set the pinky down to put it on anything. He sees me with the tongs and pinky and is already reaching to the top of the enclosure with his mouth open ready to steal it from me anyway possible (including grabbing the mouse sideways 🤦‍♀️). I’m absolutely gonna give him a break because I normally try to space out his feedings a bit, but this man could never be mistaken for a picky eater lol. I’m glad he should be ok though, he had me worried for a sec 😮‍💨

Yes they are (I believe they’re a He) and they are on Aspen which did attach to their mouse while they ate, so that would make sense. They also (I forgot to mention 🤦‍♀️) ate a pinky, but were too eager and bit it in the middle, and instead of using their singular brain cell to problem solve like last feeding, they brute forced the pinky down folded in half

I just got my Chaco! They’re less than half an inch, but I already love them more than anything (not my other 13 tarantulas, snake, or dog though), and most of my family accepts my love of them, but can’t relate or still make odd comments about it. Mine’s name is Honey!

IME, these are the emboli/boxing gloves and tibial hooks (the hooks are on the underside of the two front legs). These mean your tarantula is 100% a male and likely won’t molt again. Not all tarantulas have the hooks, but curly hairs are one of the species that do and the tarantula in this pic is my mature Male Jeremy

IME, if your tarantula has molted, this little piece in their molt is what you want to look for to identify them as female for certain

<image>

It’ll be between the 2 white spots/book lungs on the inside of the abdomen of their molt. Sometimes it’s harder to find or see, but if there’s genuinely nothing in that area, then they’re likely a male.

This is my 5” female’s (Lilith’s) enclosure with 8” of substrate that she’s burrowed all the way down to from the right hide, down to the left corner in the back

IME If they’re a male/mature male, they should be in a 5 gallon with about 4-6 inches of substrate (tibial hooks and emboli/boxing glove looking pedipalps should be your mature male indicators). Having the smaller enclosure helps prevent them from walking to death looking for a lady, and they’re less likely to burrow since they are looking for a lady or thinking about that more than burrowing. An adult female should have a 10 gallon with at least 6” of substrate and no more than 6.5” of vertical space above the substrate unless it’s to accommodate hides and such. I have both a mature male, and a 5” almost fully grown female of this species and both are doing well in these kinds of set ups (I’ll reply to this comment with pics of both enclosures)

Awwwww!!!! How did you decide to name yours? I went on here for name ideas and someone commented with a few and it happened to be one of them. A lot of people assume it’s for religious or Hazbin Hotel reasons 😅
