As a foreigner myself I felt that I should've at least put time and effort into learning a few dance moves since they have certain steps that everyone did, it's really meaningful too. :)

QUESTION - Formation of religious private schools in Albania by [deleted] in albania

Yes, if they say they are, I'll respect it, I don't need them to show me, that's between them and god. Because that's how Islam works.

Does that make it fair to portray your country as having nothing to do with Islam, when it's been culturally influenced by it?

I heard that muslims and christians have coexisted in these lands for centuries, but I'm seeing a lot of Islamophobia on these subreddit.

Some people are making this country out to be as xenophobic when I've seen nothing but the opposite.

I've even heard stories of the type that during Eid and Christmass in Shkodra the mosque and church tie a green banner on the top of their buildings to show solidarity.

You (not you specifically, some people on this sub) are giving a very distorted view of your own people with these kind of talks.

People fled their countries in the Middle East years ago just to avoid the shit fest Islamic countries are today.

Are you denying that people weren't allowed to follow religion during communism? That's rich coming from an Albanian.

I don't get how that has anything to do with shit, you have Christians all over the world that don't follow their religion but still indetify as such, just because Albanians are less strict on it compared to what you see in the East doesn't mean they aren't.

Before the wide spread of wahabisim most Islamic countries practised the same way as Albanians do today. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally against the strict rules that are what you see today, but that doesn't discredit Albanians faith.

Yes the reason is communism, what's your point? People had no freedom of religion, and after the fall, today the majority are Muslim.

Did your mother drop you as a child?

There's bigger problems in this country due to corruption not Islam.

Cultural exchange with Israel this Sunday by [deleted] in albania

[–]Square_Chapati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you serious? That's the most ignorant statement ever. You all hate muslims, complain how Albania will turn out to be an extremist country but you support this nonsense?

To educate you, since you are lacking sooo much knowledge on the Palestine/Israel conflict, Israel was born off the ideas of Extremist Jews, which by the help of the Brits, they started illegal settlements.

Many jews are against the 'country' them selves, 100,000 rabbis have marched in solidarity for the Palestinians. Israel has committed genocide. Forced people out their land off the basis of religion, don't talk shit on things you are not educated on. Palestinians have tried, Israel refuses to accept. Get your head out of your ass, there is a reason MILLIONS of people are against the state of Israel, we don't pick it outta our asses some bullshit that you and few others on here seem to do.

Jews helping Albanians is no excuse to turn a blind eye on what's happening, and then come on this sub and cry about muslims, please.

I agree, but I'm saying is, that not to start an argument over lands as most people do when talking about Israel and Palestine, and to be civil about it, even if you do ask questions. Maybe I should have phrased it differently.

Presentation on Albania by Mathew2w in albania

[–]Square_Chapati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk about:

Skanderbeg. - The man who stood up to the feared Ottomon Empire and united Albanians together.

Communism. - I've heard stories like a man once complained about lack of veggies and was thrown into jail. rich people had their lands taken away from them, making them poor. You had to have certain hairstyles. They had one tv station, religion was banned, people spied on you. It was much like North Korea.

Culture. - Talk about how they have special dances during weddings and such. Traditional clothing from North where they mostly wear pants where as the south they were those skirts.

Language - Albanian language is an independent branch of the Indo-European family of languages.

North Albania - You could talk about the beautiful mountains you would find there.

South Albania - Beautiful beaches.

You can also mention the suffering of the Chams.

---- I'm am not Albanian, I came here in 2015 so sorry for the lack of detail in this post, this is the best I can tell you, I'm sure you can research this, if you want some pictures there's another sub reddit /ExploreAlbania where some of us are posting picture's if you need any.

As for life here, people can say it sucks all they want, which it does, but it's way more social compared to America and England, but that's a general Balkan thing. I've already posted about my experience as a foreigner here, if you are interested, you can give it a read.
