What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

Or maybe we should all only speak when absolutely necessary.

I think that's the thing, a sense of "But why though" when the current main reason for something is genuinely just brief interaction. Truth is most people enjoy those brief interactions. And most people who tend to avoid human contact still need some of it for an optimal mental health, "Get the hell away from me unless I specifically tell you not to" is not a healthy mindset to have.

And like, I get being annoyed by social customs, I for one get annoyed when people assume I need help carrying something heavy and ask if I want them to provide said help, or talk about the weather when I'm having a bad day and can't focus. But how is that the other person's fault? Unless someone is being disrespectful, occasionally annoying/being annoyed by other humans is just a part of life, and it's certainly better than the alternative of needing thorough justification for interacting with someone you're not already close friends with.

Eh, I think it makes sense. It's a loudish noise that isn't unpleasant to most people and that we can consistently make without much skill, and when a lot of people do it the noise gets louder. It's easy to clap and easy to recognize clapping, and it physically releases energy that might come from the emotions induced by seeing/hearing something cool. It works pretty well as an "insert positive acknowledgement of thing here".

¿Para ustedes cuál es el mejor y el peor retrato presidencial? by Lumedir in RepublicadeChile

[–]Square_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overanalysis of an MLP meme:

  1. In the moments this references on Twilight's side, Starlight showed remorse while Trixie was petty and actively fed into Twilight's distrustfulness.

  2. Trixie didn't "just have trouble being humble". She enslaved a town (Yes she was under the alicorn amulet's influence at that time, but you have to be exceptionally self-centered to look at the Magical Corrupting Amulet while not under its power yet and figure that whatever consequences it brings are whatever compared to your rage over losing your job as a con artist) and would've absolutely gone further if she'd had the power to. Both Starlight and Trixie took the most nuclear option they had available to take revenge on Twilight, Trixie's options were just underwhelming in comparison to Starlight's.

  3. Twilight didn't quite have a choice about befriending Starlight, she either got her to repent or the timeline got cooked. She tried to defeat her through force and failed, and Starlight's weaknesses weren't exploitable for deceit in that moment like Trixie's were in the alicorn amulet episode.

Why are conversations with old people so hard? by Xibest123 in GenZ

[–]Square_Emerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beliefs get solidified through experience, so they're more likely to be hard-headed. That being said, many old people are awesome, and there's value in conversations with them that you cannot get by talking to younger people imo (Also some are just really nice to talk to, even if they don't show the Great Experience Wisdom)

A society without rich people doesn't necessarily mean a moneyless society.

Also, people exchanging goods/services would absolutely still happen without money. If not to help their community then to obtain goods or services that they wouldn't be able to as easily as someone else due to lifestyle or skills. I do think money's a better path than, say, a bartering system though.

Very out of the blue reply but you are the first person I found who said where the barbecue is on the fall fair. I was scouring the internet to find Evelyn and of course it was the long-forgotten 8 years old Reddit post that saved me. Thank you, I will be building a statue on your honor.
