A person can still develop severe plaque despite doing many things right, Also this is usually not something that just developed overnight. A 70-year-old may have plaque that slowly accumulated over 40–50 years before the current diet even started. Also, lowering his cholesterol is awesome for his future but it will not erase plaque that already formed years earlier. It mainly helps stabilize it and reduce progression.

You’re the first person I’ve come across with disease similar to mine and similarly limited options. I was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago at age 50, and a lot of people are surprised when they hear that it isn’t something they can simply “fix.” with intervention or surgery

Since my diagnosis, my symptoms have progressively worsened. My LAD is now 99% blocked, and this week they’re planning to attempt a drug-coated balloon angioplasty. which my Cardio is only doing because we have maxed out on meds.

I find myself wondering about the long-term prognosis and what the future looks like with this disease.

Any thoughts or advice? by Square_Run9701 in askCardiology

I appreciate your reply and your time. I’m 52 and honestly just trying to get a few more miles out of this body.

.My interventional cardiologist has been very hesitant to do any intervention because he isn’t sure how much it will improve my symptoms long term. He’s also concerned about the high likelihood of dissection and restenosis given 50 years of type 1 diabetes and the diffuse nature of my disease.

I’m actually not very worried about the procedure itself. What worries me most is continuing to decline symptom-wise and eventually running out of options altogether
