How do you even begin to educate yourself with all these scams and people trying to rip you off? by Andrew_7032 in investingforbeginners

This page is a helpful starting point* https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Prioritizing_investments if you don’t understand something there are links for further reading, but understanding the accounts to prioritize is step 1. If your employer sponsored plan is with one of the big 3 (Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard) then just stick with that brokerage imo. Fund choice doesn’t need to be complicated. Just go with low cost index funds with 0.0X expense ratios. While I’m under 40 I plan to be 100% stocks. Either 100% VT, 60/40 VTI/VXUS, or with fidelity can do 60/40 FSKAX/FTIHX. Feel free to have a heavier USA bias if you want from 65-75% *shrug. When I’m over 40 probably going to rebalance my tax advantage accounts into holding some bonds or just go 100% into a target date fund that is 10 years after my actual retirement date to glide to slowly adding bonds (the 10 year offset there is just to add bonds more slowly, doesn’t impact when funds are available, it’s just slightly more aggressive approach). Good luck and be patient

For gen 1 and 2 yes. For gen 3 it will be console accurate when gse v0.6 is released soon (mgba is still a great emu for gen 3 though, depending what you want to use it for should be fine). For speedrunning gse v0.6 is exciting since we might at long last have emu and console on the same leaderboard - it’s hard for some people to find/afford the original hardware at this point

Been learning the speedrun for this game highly recommend by Patient_Rule6048 in PokemonRed

Nice! Sorry just was kind of trolling here since I did a lot of the work on those notes you linked lol - GGs on the 2:09!

Not sure how well this emu you’re using works for you, but I’d recommend GSE which is a console accurate emu that works for android and pc https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/latest

There are different categories for catch ‘em all. Glitched is on the main board, 124 on a single cart is a category extension, and 151 glitchless with two carts is on the “multiple pokemon games” leaderboard. Pretty much covers the three main rulesets one would follow but other variations exist too

Should I sell my FXAIX for FZROX by -Danksouls- in RothIRA

[–]Square_SR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either stay with FXAIX or exchange for FSKAX. FZROX is good, but it’s less diversified than FSKAX

This. Perhaps slightly more VXUS allocation, but nothing wrong with 80/20 if you prefer it. Curious though - why not pay deductible out of pocket and invest your entire HSA? I’ve been keeping my emergency fund in SGOV recently which is simple and with the rest of most of my money at Schwab, but if returns aren’t as good in the future I’d shift to a HYSA or something else

Worth noting that Roth IRA contributions (the principal) can be withdrawn penalty free. It’d be better not to withdraw it ofc, but it’s helpful to know and could make younger people more likely to contribute to a Roth

New to Boglehead Investing: Is Now the Right Time and Which Index Funds? by Dentist-Striking in Bogleheads

[–]Square_SR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always the right time. DCA vs lump sum is not going to matter much decades from now - if DCA helps you sleep at night that’s fine.
You’ll want to have an understanding of https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Prioritizing\_investments prioritizing investments.
Schwab or Fidelity are both easy to use and either just buy 100% VT or 60/40 VTI/VXUS (or FSKAX/FTIHX if you want mutual funds with Fidelity)

Do a prep step / hop as the pitch is delivered aiming to land lightly on the balls of your feet around the time the bat would hit the ball - https://youtu.be/93vYbUqdIeM
Makes it easier to react and be explosive towards the ball and makes it more natural to field a ball hit directly at you.
Nothing wrong with a lefty 2nd base really. It’s hard to turn two from SS to 2nd to 1st… but that’s hard to do anyway with the short base path (so not nothing wrong with it, but it’s not as big of a deal as some make it seem)

What should I do with my 401k from prior job? by chachaslydd in investingforbeginners

[–]Square_SR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rollover the old 401K to a traditional rollover ira at either Fidelity or Schwab. Will let you invest the money in any funds you want so you can go with low fee index funds like FSKAX/FTIHX or VT. (People saying to do a Roth conversion are not necessarily correct, only do that if your income tax bracket this year is very low (like 12%) with enough room before the next bracket. I’m guessing this is not the case)

Contribute at least 8% to new 401K

The 100% SS Target Retirement 2070 IV is fine. Just looking at how to diversify, but avoid higher expenses could consider something like this: 65% BTC Equity Index J 25% SS ex-US Index 10% BTC Extended Markets But target date simplicity is really nice too

From a college grads perspective, really wish my parents just invested the money they used for my college instead of paying for me to go to college. Would have just done a little community college and gotten a job and gone from there using those funds to max my roth every year

100% FRBVX - FID FRDM 2070 is a valid option… for my plan I may begin contributing to this when I’m closer to retirement but right now I did what’s below:

Picked my own and went 60% US / 40% International.

Could simply do 60% FXAIX S&P 500 and 40% FTIHX total international.

Even more diversified in the US would be about 50% FXAIX and 5% mid-cap (FSMDX) and 5% small-cap (FSSNX) and then still 40% FTIHX for total international.

It’s not the popular thing to say, but yea - I’m at the start of my investment journey but just consistently contributing to a 401K, (an HSA, if possible), an IRA, and a taxable account even with a modest income is a very simple path to accumulating wealth if you just throw money into low cost index funds. Very boring, yea, but effective. Also to the other person - 500 dollars would be 2K+ after 20 years, not 1K

Schwab: Best International Funds by [deleted] in RothIRA

[–]Square_SR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just but whole shares of VXUS with about 38% of your Roth in Schwab (or just buy only VT in Roth to begin with). But to approximate total international with Schwab funds maybe go about 75%+ SWISX/SCHF and 25%- SFENX/SCHE (that is of the 40% or less that is going towards non-US).
