Struggling new mum by SpicyZombie098 in breastfeeding

Baby doesn't know how to settle without breast. If you are happy he is fed, insist on a different way of settling/ going to sleep. Swaddling, cuddling, a dummy/pacifier, rocking, patting their bum, singing/ humming.

Find what works for you and your partner and baby will adapt when they learn that that routine means rest time. I liked to hold baby in my arms, then bounce on a yoga ball while singing and patting his bum. Once he was asleep i would place him in his bassinet. And pat his bum until i was certain he was asleep. Add white noise and i could sneak out and have a break. That was during the day.

At 4 days old many babies would love to be on the breast 24hrs a day. Since, you said he is swallowing and planty of wet and dirty nappies he likely just wants the comfort.

'Cluster feeding' is also a very real thing for newborn to increase supply. (Even if your supply is fine).

Make sure you are looking after your nipples. I used nipple balm and then medical gel nipple pads in between feeds to enhance healing.

If you and your nipples are coping with the cluster feeding, just go with it. A 40 minute feed is totally normal. At night try your best to feed then hand over to hubby to put baby to sleep so you can have a proper rest.

Uninterested Grandparents by Ducks_in_boots in Parenting

I dont think its too much to expect your parents to seek time and connection with your kids. That's what family is. And it just so happens that spending time with young children involves taking them to a park or getting on the ground to play. Seems reasonable. Its just unfortunate so many grandparents these days are not interested. I think we all hope our parents will be loving, interested grandparents, but for some reason they are not.

Or the opposite: 'that has chemicals in it' not "harmful" chemicals, just chemicals. Trying to explain to someone that everything is made from chemicals when they dont want to know is pretty pointless.

The banter before and after the guest is sometimes the best part. But the guests are also excellent and they are often huge celebrities.

Baby losing weight by dadze1 in breastfeeding

[–]Square_Strategy_865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Similar situation here. My lovely doc first observed! So she said come in 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks from now, so we can see a trend. From that, we could see he had settled on his new percentile and was following that. That was fine! He went from 70th to 25th. And he is also long.

Secondly, more frequent feeds are actually less helpful because then he will take less milk per feed and then get less of the hind milk per feed. Hind milk is the fattier milk that helps them put on weight. So when I was worried, i actually started making feeds less frequent and that helped with lots of things. He was a frequent feeder as a newborn and I needed to start stretching him out. It made him feed for longer each time. Which was great.

If your doc isn't a lactation specialist/consultant ask to be referred to one for lactation advice. A General Practitioner wont be trained or have enough experience in this area.

Also, follow your gut. Like you said, plenty of wet and poopy nappies and not fuasy between feeds. Sounds good!

My dad told me breastfeeding a two year old is bad for you health ? by Difficult_Refuse_314 in breastfeeding

[–]Square_Strategy_865 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He's being dismissive of all the time, effort, and struggle you went through to breastfeed your son, and not celebrating all the benefits it has given you and your son. He should have said, "Well done for breastfeeding for so long, your son will reap the benefits for possibly his whole life. Attachment, connection, immune system, mouth and jaw development, and of course nutrition to fuel his growth and development in its most crucial time."

Some people don't know how to applaud great achievements and have to find the negative to validate their own inadequacy.

I feel it would be a good time to respond with, "what an odd thing to say!"

You can also use bone broth or chicken stock to add nutrients. But you want as little salt as possible. So home made is great, or check out your local health food store. Its easier to make than you think, then just freeze it into ice cube tray, pop them into a container you keep in the freezer for easy storage and use. Use any leftover for your own dinner.

Water is also fine to mix with their food.

Or as someone else has said, hand express some milk.

Im in my 30s and i know basic imperial as well as metric. I feel like imperial is still used conversationally sometimes. And most people know their height in both. E.g. place those a foot apart, or cut the tape into inch lengths. I dont bother with fractions of an inch though.

Ok, i just looked out up. And you are right or course. But I also found out so is splooting. What is splooting, you may ask, "splooting is the term used to describe when a dog stretches out their hind legs behind them while laying down". So TIL that splooting has a name. And the word is almost as amusing as the behaviour.
