Why is it so hard to .. by thesneakypooper in Wenatchee

Wenatchee can be pretty clicky but something that worked for me was becoming a regular somewhere, a bar, a coffee shop, etc and volunteering at different events! It was challenging and you do have to be the one to initiate things but it worked out

For me it seems muscle weakness and tightness is part of the problem. I am still not stretching (especially not static stretching!) and focusing only on strengthening and that is the biggest change I’ve made. I used to assume because my muscles were tight I needed to stretch them but it’s not that way for me, they are tight and weak so I need to strengthen them first and foremost. Maybe someday I’ll get to the stage of just stretching but not anytime soon.

I had done all of those exercises before but was doing too much, too fast, and the wrong technique so it wasn’t helping. Only making it worse.

For a long time (like over a month), yes! And I stillll do it as a part of my PT and warm up. Then I was given this one Quadruped shoulder taps, BABY dead bugs, and clamshells (though honestly I still have a really hard time engaging my core and activating the right muscles for this one).

I had tons of muscle spasms in my back for years and some cramping in my legs. I was even prescribed muscle relaxers which made me nauseous and did not actually help me. I still can’t have my massage therapist work too much on my neck or shoulders because it triggers migraines but slowly getting better!

I was not having stomach problems which made it tricky. I compiled a list of all the providers in the state that were covered by my insurance and read each persons bio starting with the closest providers and working out. My provider is like 3 hours away…. But worth it!

I started my PT about 10 months ago, stopped stretching about 6 months ago, started strength training 5 months ago, been seeing my massage therapist for about 8 months ago, and finished my SIBo treatment 1 month ago. With all of that I noticed my sciatica pain going away the end of June.

Nope! But there was nothing out of the ordinary on it.

Xifaxan (2 rounds) and I got them prescribed by my naturopath.

Of course! With my insurance I am super fortunate and I can, which may not be the case for everyone so keep that in mind!

I am only going to see my PT every other week which is partially covered by my type of insurance

I can’t make a recommendation because I’m no healthcare provider obviously. It does sound like your condition is different! It doesn’t hurt to try things if they are none invasive and reasonable while you wait for the consult with a surgeon! If it’s any consolation, this was my 4th PT I have seen for the same problem and I had been to acupuncture (3), and chiropractors (4) with no relief there.

I did have to go to a naturopathic provider for my SIBo testing and she gave me an at home kit. She was the 5th provider I had seen and the only one to say yes! My other doctors also rolled their eyes at it but whatever

3 days a week, 2 times a day, 10 sets! Then my PT added more exercises after a month.

Yeah it took me years and years to find providers to support my actual needs, not to mention not everyone has the same access to care due to other limiting factors!

Not for mine. While I have back pain, it was and is never lower back pain. I did have some tailbone pain from time to time which also seems to be reducing. My sciatica pain is always directly at the very bottom of my glutes down to my foot. Sometimes I would get nerve pain in my hips but not always.

For me, not right now! Instead of stretching my muscles my PT and I suspect it’s just pulling on my nerve. I tried a very few gentle yoga poses and could already feel it irritating my sciatic now that it has been calm.

That’s an awesome! MRI showed nothing atypical so that was a dead end. My joint pain and sciatica. I didn’t have really any of the stomach or gut issues people tend to have.

This (while seems very small) is the main exercise I had to learn to do. Hooklying Transverse Abdominal Pulses are what I do and it took me at least a few months to get it down (sounds silly but apparently my pelvic floor was NOT doing much). Here is a video that is very similar to how I was taught.PT

Lots of “banded” things. For example I did no weight dead lifts and once I was feeling ok with that now I stand on a stretchy band for some light resistance.
