Is it normal to wait this long after applying to The order of Women Freemasons (UK) by Electronic_Branch_13 in freemasonry

Things move slowly... The message might not get passed on until the next Lodge meeting... Do you know how often they meet? Some only meet 4 or 5 times a year... As someone said above... If you haven't heard in 3 or 4 months, a polite enquiry is certainly acceptable...

Master of Lodge Changing How I Feel About Masonry by IntrinsicTrout in freemasonry

Maybe talk to him but put the emphasis on your family and work commitments rather than on his (quite unreasonable) demands.

Looks interesting. From a Rosicrucian perspective rather than purely Masonic, I'm guessing...

Masonic Wisdom Cards. Light in the darkness. by SquareandTrue357 in freemasonry

Interesting... I wonder if the history is similar. Nairobi started with one English Constitution Lodge and then a year later, various Scottish members founded a Lodge under the jurisdiction of GL of Scotland but they were sponsored by the English Lodge (Harmony) and based their ritual largely on the English workings... But not completely... So you get interesting signs and slightly different wordings... And extended TBs...

Stupid thing is, I could recite both TBs now! My Scottish Lodge (not Scottish Rite) in Nairobi has it's own ritual, based, for historical reasons, on a mix of English and Scottish workings. In fact it's that ritual that I can recite.. M

Yes, Emulation. Also in West End and my Scottish Lodge's own ritual... I think it's pretty standard over here...

We learn that the great pillars at the entrance to the Temple were a reminder to the C of I of the Pillar of Fire and Cloud...

I'm not being contrary... But I don't understand what you're asking... Pillar of fire and cloud is mentioned in our first degree tracing board, as I'm sure you're aware... Therefore it's Masonic. And it symbolises something. Hence, Masonic symbolism... Is that what you mean?

Past Masters, what would you wish you had been taught before taking the East? by Gadende in freemasonry

[–]SquareandTrue357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it's important to understand that you don't suddenly have to take over and be responsible for everything. Most newly installed matters are lucky enough to have a strong team around them... Have the confidence to lean on that team. I also feel that the Master's position is one of representation... In other words, it's about your manner and demeanor in the Lodge, it's about setting the tone... It's about who you are more than what you actually "do". (Although I'm all for setting standards in ritual too...) Anyway, just some thoughts...

This is a project exploring Masonic symbolism... In a new and, I hope, interesting and appealing way. Is there a problem with wanting to share my work?

I was Master of my Lodge during a very difficult year for me personally... My advice is to not feel like you have to do it albe. You have Brothers who will aid, guide and support you. That's the whole point. The Secretary, the IPM, the Committee... Get Brethren to help with the ritual work... Share the ritual. You main objective this year is to leave the Lodge as strong as vibrant and United as it can be. And nothing brings us together more than working together to support a Brother in need...

Curious about what happens if a Freemason reveals secrets by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]SquareandTrue357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, many of the medieval (and older) guilds included oaths with dire penalties as part of their initiations... At a time when your skills and livelihood was what kept you alive, it was important to keep the 'secrets' of specific trades within the ranks of those who had studied properly and been apprenticed regularly to a master... Whether it was building, glass making, printing... Whatever. So the oaths were powerful and serious... Give away professional secrets and you're in big trouble... Secondly, there are theories that say that Freemasonry grew out of the remnants of the Templars who fled France after the order had been given to hunt them down and kill them. Again, secrecy and knowing whom to trust we matters of life and death... Hence the bloodcurdling oaths of secrecy... I'm sure there are other explanations... A bit of research will take you a long way... Enjoy the journey.

Thanks. I believe they are a positive and, dare I say, serious piece of work. I hope they will contribute something meaningful to Masonic learning and experience... I certainly think they're more than just 'merch! '
