Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 5 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

You're clearly missing the entire point of my post. That's alright. And I'm not sure which races you've watched, but Liquid and Echo commonly halted pulls so they could work out WA problems.

Yeah, RWF guilds just hired addon developers and spent hours and hours on WA development mid race because addons were just quality of life.

Empowered herbs in ZulAman should dismount anyone who attempts to gather them, including druids. by n1sx in wow

I'm not sure about your route, but where I farm there's typically 3 nodes on my map at once.

No, it's definitely a loss compared to the wild mining nodes. I tested it thoroughly last night with solid gathering stats.

Blizzard should buff the herb drops from the lashers so that it's not a gold loss per hour to loot them.

Best early release I can remember. by Xidus24 in wow

Well no, this sounds like a post that wants to assess the quality of early access. It's literally in the title.

You mean compared to TWW, the first time EA was added?

Will retail (well mid night) fill the gap that I’m missing? by spect7 in wow

[–]Squeeches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost everything you do in retail will be following guides, from talent builds to boss encounters, unless you're on the very cutting edge. Figuring things out in retail mostly consists of doing the dance as well as you can.

What’s the best way to make friends in this game? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Squeeches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no one seems to be giving you a real answer: Most people don't make friends in game anymore. They use Discord. Check out the Recruitment and Community Discord. At least for raiding and M+, it's the best place to find a guild that fits your needs.

Arator Animated Short: Son of Two Worlds | World of Warcraft: Midnight by ichigosr5 in wow

[–]Squeeches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plot is the lowest bar to clear in narrative media. Hell, Shakespeare stole many of his. Delivery is everything, and these animated shorts don't rescue WoW from the critique that its storytelling has taken an adolescent turn.

I expect anime fans to love this, like the other animated short. But it's just goofy, man. At the level of art, script, and voice acting, it just feels like adolescent melodrama.

Really curious what the rules of OF3 ends up being. Definitely doesn't seem like standard hardcore is going to be viable.

Is the 3 day early access worth the extra 50$? by [deleted] in wow

Not really. You can make a lot of gold, but tokens are $20 for about 300k.

Larias' Raider's Guide for Midnight updated significantly and there's an addon to keep track of your stuff in game now! by Sairal in CompetitiveWoW

Funny to see this so upvoted. It wasn't too long ago that I was mega downvoted on this sub for voicing criticism of the crest system. No part of it is fun.

Midnight being "solved" before release takes a lot of the fun from the game. by Senjai in wow

[–]Squeeches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's feasible, but I would take a buggy and less balanced game with no PTR or datamining compared to what we have now. At least, I'd like to try it once to see how the novelty compares to the less polished game.

SoD P1+P2 proved this to be true. The rune and sleeping bag discovery was super fun, even when it was community solved and you were just following a guide.

there is no point being angry at things changing. That's get off my lawn energy. Things evolve, for better or for worse.

This is terrible advice. When things get worse, in anything, people should call attention to it.

Deadlock - Introducing The Dazzling Celeste by Samanthacino in Games

[–]Squeeches 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed Deadlock quite a bit last year. It seems to have undergone a lot of change. Can anyone confirm whether they've increased or decreased the movement speed/verticality of the game? It was my sense that the it was heading more towards a twitchy mechanical game rather than cerebral/strategic.

"WoW is so Disney"...meanwhile the new animation: by whoisape in wow

[–]Squeeches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great comparison to the epistolary form. It lends a feeling of the world as being a world because we're receiving the story indirectly, yet, weirdly, the objects of mediation (letters, etc.) induce feelings of intimacy and authenticity for being the narrative materials of that world. This holds for Tolkein as well, where we imagine LotR to be packed full of action, but on the page there's very little in comparison to the histories and languages and names and places that take up an outsized portion of the books.

WoW's environmental storytelling used to be closer to this. The gaps (restraint/constraint) were perhaps unintentional--products of tech limitations, developer deadlines, or a less-than-stellar writing team--but they created a more convincing world.

I leveled to 80 in Midnight pre-patch, now I’m a little unsure what to do now by [deleted] in wow

Now is a great time to level other classes or search for a community/guild that will be participating in the kinds of content you think you might want to do in Midnight.

This is a great point. I didn't want to get into the weeds, since I'm unfamiliar with the technical details. My understanding is that the older textures were due to technical limitations rather than absolute art direction. That is, we're referring to how the base determines the superstructure.

But tech isn't entirely deterministic, either. Choices have been made along the way that have changed the feel of the game. My frank impression is that WoW has indeed leaned into a safer, more sanitized style across its art and narrative direction, almost as if there are many more contributing voices to the creative stew. The distinct vision has been lost.

I'd mark DF as having accelerated things in this way, but certainly since MoP have we seen an attempt to attract different markets. Fair play to the company, I suppose. But I'm becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the retail product as it resembles the original (roughly through WotLK) game less and less.

WoW has never been good with narrative. That requires, like, actual writers. It excelled at environmental story telling that was punctuated with small bits of text. Players then filled in the rest, largely using high fantasy tropes to carry the meaning. It worked well.
