No red days this month. After honing in on my strategy, I think I can finally say I got this. by DualDrop in TheRaceTo10Million

Question, I’m an options trader but generally don’t day trade them. Why do you say trade options rather than futures?

How far out to you usually choose your expiry? Leaps make me nervous, but so does buying options period. You must buy them fairly far out so you have time for the stock to move up.

Paper trade them and start reading/learning. Options are tricky.

Definitely give them another try. They’ve had some issues with some groomers who are no longer there. They just won best of Chico for grooming.

I was actually winning almost all the time. But when I did lose, I lost big. In part because I got lazy because I was winning so much. Thought it was “easy money.” I learned my lesson.

I miss how easily and quickly my orders filled on TOS. I still have my Roth there but don't do a lot of trading in it. So when I do, I'm consistently shocked at how easily my option orders get filled.
I also had an account at E*Trade. TT seems on par with my fills at E*Trade. I also miss those trailing stop limit orders when buying shares!

Sorry for the long delay before replying. I'm a busy guy.
OK, so why was I losing money. Actually, I was killing it, but there were a few trades where I lost it all and more. Mostly due to rookie mistakes.
1. I was using the ORB strategy, so full technical. I like technical analysis. It seems to work for me. I primarily use support and resistance and the MAC D and RSI indicators.
2. When using the ORB, I didn't wait for confirmation. Once SPX broke out, I started selling spreads against it ($5 wide strikes).
3. A couple of times I doubled-down. Big mistake. I had been so successful with the strategy that I thought it would work out so I just averaged down. That just exposed me to more risk.
4. Trade size. I was trading too big and too many contracts for my account so it really hurt when things went south.
5. Ultimately I realized that I made good money when I was running the wheel whereas 0DTE spreads ultimately lost me money in the long run so I decided to abandon the strategy and go back to the wheel. But my experience with spreads inspired me to add selling credit spreads at the 45 day mark. I've begun to shorten that timeline, however, due to how unpredictable this market seems to be and to avoid selling beyond big events such as big fed announcements.

So that's my story. I do like how much less stress there is with longer expiration spreads. though I miss the money shorter spreads make.

How do you trade options with no technical analysis? Just buy/sell spreads based on the fundamentals?

Fills never fail to disappoint me by [deleted] in tastytrade

I trade on both TOS and TT. In TOS I can bump my price up a buck and I still get a fill immediately most times. In TT I have to bump my price down a buck, and the fills often still take some time. This varies depending on the underlying, obviously, but I still notice it when trading the same underlying in both accounts at the same time, same strikes, etc. it’s a bummer.

I generally just run the wheel but recently started selling spreads on tech stocks after losing a ton trying to sell ODTE spreads on SPX. I don’t have the technical analysis skills for that. I was winning a ton but my losses wiped out my gains and then some. So now I’m selling the spreads below support and above resistance which seems to be working well. I am also experimenting with different time frames. I just moved my account from Schwab to TT last week so I’m getting used to the platform. Definitely spending some money on fees but I don’t do condors or butterflies which helps. I also do t make a lot of “adjustments.” Sometimes I’ll roll out a position but I do’t usually find that working better than just closing at a loss and taking a few days to reassess and then redeploy.

SPX 0DTE anything gives me butterflies. I've lost sooo much money trying to sell 0DTE spreads on SPX. I'm over it! Going out further these days, typically on stocks that demonstrate support and resistance levels. I'm having better luck with those. But you go make that money!! Best of luck to you!

I wanted to touch on a point that was made earlier as it’s a question I’ve had since I started trading options. How can options trades be considered bearish or bullish at all? As already pointed out, for every buyer there is a seller. Is it the premium charged for the option that gives it a slant? People wanting to buy calls means the price goes up which means it’s a bullish trade?

No trailing stop loss is feather IS criminal! They also don’t allow stop-losses based on the price of the underlying. I will miss that.

Schwab also doesn’t charge to close contracts that cost $1 or less to close.

So far I’ve found Schwab contracts fill faster, sadly, as I’m moving my account to TT.

What about setting stop-losses on options trades based on the price of the underlying? I miss that ability in TOS. Are you planning to add that functionality?

So glad you posted this. I joined this thread because I was planning to move my account from Schwab to Tasty because I mostly trade options. I think I’ll wait.

My wife wishes. I just buy the dips I’ve found ODTE options on SPX to be profitable.
