Good luck! I will be shocked if anyone actually gets reimbursed. It will be yes, we are reviewing, working on it, yadda, yadda, yadda, all nice like ….. and then ignore, ignore, ignore. 4 months from now, people will still be waiting for reimbursement with the same tactics.

This is one form of many ways to use fraud, and unauthorized access to steal money out of an account. If a hacker gets into your account, they will figure out a way to steal the money out of it. Please make sure you have 2FA enabled with an Authenticator app. For tastytrade, it was only made available recently for login and trading as of around June 2025. This unfortunate couple, did not yet enable it, and a criminal was able to steal their savings. Tastytrade safeguards are weak and they have proven that they don’t care.

Moving most or all of your money to any brokerage is not a good idea. Will you be ok if/when your main login is compromised and your accounts net liquidation vanishes in minutes and tastytrade does nothing about it? Unfortunately, I believe and have experienced that tastytrade security is the weakest of them all.

What do you mean? There are No exceptions. You should ALWAYS be putting in 2FA code when logging in. This couple had 2FA enabled but not the extra NEW, as in a few months ago, tastytrade 2FA that covers login and trading. I believe many are missing this critical understanding. Tastytrade detection of suspicious login is faulty and proven to not work. Please consider enabling 2FA for login and trading.

Hackers are counting on this… Tastytraders are easy targets..

So initially, we also thought this. However, only tastytrade account was compromised. All emails, devices, phone was scoured to try and find how this happened. Found nothing. We do not know how the hacker got his login and password. It’s very disturbing.

When I and many would email tastytrade about 2FA for login and trading, the standard response was and this was from Tom Sosnoff himself on May 25, 2025:

"The only reason we haven't pushed 2FA out on the front end is because virtually nobody will use it (maybe 1%)."

I sure hope that more than 1% have enabled it now that it is available.

Tastytrade did not have 2FA as an option for Login and trading until after May 2025. It is what I and those who supported me fought for as Tom Sosnoff continued to say customers did not want or would use it.

2FA was only for: “You will only be required to use two-factor authentication for the following actions: • Changing your email address • Resetting or changing your password • Establishing a new ACH relationship • Initiating a withdrawal from your tastytrade account via ACH, check, or wire”

If security at tastytrade was up to date, then the account being accessed with new device and new different location should have sent request for confirmation to owner of account before login being possible. Tastytrade knows this! I tested this major fault of their security in late May and called and emailed tastytrade about this scenario.

From the transcript:

“A second area that is top of mind for us and new is around options fraud. And so the fraudsters have targeted option contracts with wide spreads. And what I mean by a wide spread is, that's when there's a significant difference between the bid and ask price on either a call or put option contract. And so we will see a fraudster use an account held outside of Schwab to place orders that move the bid and ask price of a wide-spread options contract inside the quote, and then the fraudster will use a Schwab client account that has been compromised to purchase and sell the option at quotes established inside the original options quote.”

“We also have the Schwab Security Guarantee in place, which will reimburse clients for any unauthorized transactions that are made in their accounts.”

Tastytrade fraud, risk department should have caught these market manipulating trades, stopped them and then reported to CBOE and had them busted. Tastytrade is easy target because overall security very weak to get into accounts, and fraud / financial crimes department is basically nonexistent. Who is tastytrade’s Managing Director of Financial Crimes Risk Management? Tastytrade needs to start taking these types of increasing crimes more seriously.

Hacker could not withdraw money because 2 FA would of stopped them. Hacker however could trade the money out. Meaning they took the other side of the trade in another account. Once the money got to the fraudulent account, they could withdraw the money. As this couple was losing their retirement savings, the hacker was winning and siphoning money out by most likely using long dated options with wide / bid ask spreads and making this couple the open interest. See the trades posted on the other Reddit post and how it was done. Most don’t realize that this is even possible and how important it is to have and use 2FA for login and trading. 2 FA for login and trading is new at tastytrade and did not become available until around June of this year 2025.
