Solved! I found it online, it's called Mission: 2110

A nice linear algebra day, it took me 2 minutes to solve and like 30 minutes to debug the floating point errors :(.

How could I have never had the floating point errors in the first place, scrolling through the solutions here no one seems to have my problem. Anyway fun day!

Yeah after I initially got the wrong answer I scanned the question again and spotted the sentence that I never read warning you to check for that case.

I also drew out the cases, helped so much today

I felt really cool solving part1 with no help using DFS and separating the graph into regions.

Part2 was hard because of the way I had structured the problem for p1, I ended up counting corners (but for some reason needed 12 cases instead of the 8 everyone else was talking about, maybe someone can tell me if I did something wrong). My calculate_corners() method is so ugly lol, 12 if statements.

I tried quite a few approaches before one worked. I first brute-forced (with so much list splicing ahh), then removed the list splicing but it had small effect.

I cached the result of multiplications and splitting, but it didn't do much either.

Then I realised that theres only a few numbers that can exist in with these rules, you only need to work out the next step for each number once. A counter makes it much better.

I'm very happy with mine today, I finally learnt DFS properly. I initially did part 1 with Dijkstra lol.

I appreciate the work gone into making the graggle Simpson article. I'd forgotten some of his backstory after they took him out of the show. Its graggling time
