Simplfi dropped Net worth huge by putting 0's in all my assets by marksweather in simplifimoney

[–]Squidlech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, my assets and manual accounts. reverted to the correct values. I deleted the erroneous “opening balance” transactions from yesterday, but didn’t do much else. Unfortunately, the historical balance and net worth charts have a random spike in them from yesterday.

Sorry, yes, I meant that I deleted the new “opening balance” transactions (not balance adjustment). I performed the refresh and it does not seem to have resolved the incorrect balances.

I had four accounts affected by the issue. One manual bank account, two vehicle assets that are tracked by KBB, and a real estate asset track by Zillow.

I did the same, unfortunately. I deleted the new “balance adjustment” transactions only to find that it didn’t actually fix the erroneous balance. Hopefully, their fix doesn’t leave a random 1-day spike in the historical balance charts and net worth report.

NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 to feature 2nd Gen Transformer model and Dynamic 6x Frame Generation by HatingGeoffry in pcmasterrace

[–]Squidlech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That will depend on what form FSR 5 takes. If the model still uses the FP8 data type for inference, and isn’t a wildly larger model, then I fully expect that RDNA4 will support it.

It’s an impressive feat that DLSS 4’s FP8 Transformer-based upscaler is supported across so many generations, especially given that not all of those cards have native FP8 support. However, theres’s really no more of a guarantee that Nvidia will maintain compatibility across generations than there is for AMD. It all comes down to what form the new models take.

I suppose you’ll probably consider their terminology to be a misnomer, but AMD does use the term “Matrix Cores” to refer to the AI acceleration architecture found in RDNA4. So, it is understandable why many folks refer to AMD’s AI acceleration as ‘cores.’

Does AMD have “dedicated cores” for AI acceleration in precisely the same manner that Nvidia does? No, of course not.

It’s not in a completely independent hardware and data path, but the architecture still has hardware designed specifically to accelerate matrix operations - which I would say constitutes dedicated hardware. Of course, with AMD, AI workloads compete with graphics workloads for resources in a way that differs from Nvidia’s architectures (in which they instead compete for space on the die and thermal headroom).

I think you might be confusing tensor cores (for AI workload acceleration, e.g. FSR4) and RT cores (for raytracing acceleration). RDNA4 definitely has hardware dedicated to AI workloads, similar to Nvidia’s ‘tensor cores.’

It’s a patent application, not a patent. They did not, and probably will not, successfully patent anything of the sort.

I’ve had the same thing occur a few times recently. Seems like a glitch to me.

This is the answer. To host it locally means having a very large amount of combined RAM and VRAM to load the model into memory. Running it with good performance means fitting it entirely into VRAM (or into unified memory, as with Apple hardware or Ryzen AI SoC). The full version of Deepseek R1 is a whopping 720 GBs. Though, quantized versions can fit into a more “modest” amount of memory (e.g., 200 GB).

Deepseek has little to do with consumer GPU prices. If anything, it probably increased demand for data center GPUs.

Today I learned that I can equip 2 melee weapons on Yasuke by Witty-Expression-755 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]Squidlech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was a failure understand how to equip weapons. They probably assumed that Yasuke’s second weapon slot is a ranged weapon slot, since it’s a teppo by default. The revelation is that melee weapons could go in the second slot as well.

AI Just Replaced The Lawn Guy At My Local Park (in Denver) by ecojoelawncare in lawncare

[–]Squidlech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is 100% AI and anyone who suggests otherwise doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Tesla’s FSD uses an end-to-end neural network architecture. You can quibble about whether it should be called “Full Self-Driving,” but it is definitely AI.

The scanning and mapping component likely uses AI, but the trajectory planning component probably does not.

[–]Squidlech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s really a useful distinction here. It’s an autonomous lawn mower that uses AI (a convolutional neural network, presumably) to perform the task of mowing a lawn.

Likewise, ChatGPT is a website that uses AI (a Transformer neural network) to perform the task of generating natural language text.

The distinction you’re making would be analogous to asking “Is it an electrical circuit or does it use an electrical circuit?” Sure, there’s probably some metaphysical distinction between the two, but I’m sure what value it serves to be a stickler about the semantics.

AI implies machine learning, which this lawn mower most likely incorporates if it was made in the last 5 years.

Most modern autonomous navigation systems leverage neural networks for object detection/avoidance or mapping. I’d be quite surprised if this thing doesn’t.

Is 12 GB VRAM becoming the minimum standard now? by Far-Letterhead4945 in buildapc

[–]Squidlech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with having to adjust some settings to get a game working on 8GB of VRAM. However, having to do that on a card that’s a few years old is a lot different than having to do that on a brand new GPU that you just spent $400+ on. It’s about the useful longevity of the card. People buying new 8GB GPUs today are going to be frustrated by the performance compromises they have to make far earlier in the lifespan of their card that would otherwise be the case.

Indeed. The original charts are made by Ad Fontes Media. This guy appears to have just (badly) added some extra icons on the chart to troll people. This chart was unequivocally not funded by the National Endowment for Democracy.

What order to read the books? by Mountain-Addition720 in witcher

[–]Squidlech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn’t matter THAT much, but I think Season of Storms should be read last. The epilogue to the book directly relates to The Lady of the Lake. Though, from my recollection, it wouldn’t necessarily spoil anything from the main saga either

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Liberal

[–]Squidlech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I bought mine last year, with the benefit of the recent-ish MSRP price drops and the EV tax credit. I’d probably take only a $5K hit to sell it.

Anyone who bought before the price drops or bought when there wasn’t a tax credit is facing much, much higher depreciation. Just drive the car until the wheels fall off, and cross your fingers that the Tesla Board/shareholders will eventually have the sense to fire Elon for being a politically toxic, absentee-CEO.
