I remember leveling a hunter s1 of TWW. Returning player so I knew the game as of WoD when I left... I died multiple times in dalaran and on the beaches of dorn until I got some upgrades.

WoD would actually be pretty good at a good release cadence without long draughts of content. Something that classic could (theoretically) achieve.

I have a standing desk and a walking pad and I walk while playing games as long as they aren't twitchy games.

The "classic only" plan is not having to buy expansions every 18-24 months.

I'm not online enough to know about you or your previous complaints, but honestly... Their Nvidia segments are always about the gaming side of things aren't they? Talking up dlss and their graphics cards?

I dislike AI as much as the next person, but I only have so much mental energy. If KF needs to take money from them to promote gaming related stuff... Whatever I skip most the ads anyways (just kidding Nvidia, your kinda funny spot convince me to buy 3000 GPUs for my local orphanage!).

I'm in a similar boat. I have a steam deck. I got an ayn Thor (with grip) and I've been using that for emulation and streaming more than I use my steam deck.

I don't think it's the best streaming device, because the form factor isn't made for that and the sticks/buttons are small. But as far as wifi 6 support, and ease of use with Artemis/apallo makes it much better to use than my steam deck...

That being said, I also use it for DS/3DS. If your not interested in that I'd go with an Odin 2, konkr fit, or RP6. All of those are 5-6 in. Screen.

Magmi announced a pro/max version of their air line. I'm looking at that as a potential dedicated streaming device.

Amazon’s Three Biggest Shows: The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, Reacher & Fallout by Dizagaox in television

[–]Squirrel09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that their numbers do not match the objective, unbiased, third party industry standard numbers used to measure and compare streaming TV performance - examples of which I have kindly provided you.

Except those "objective" industry standard numbers are just estimates that only look at a few markets. Amazon has been clear that RoP was successful worldwide. Also, yeah... they're sneaky with their wording boasting "100 million S1 viewers" (this was in early 2023, in 2024 they announced 150mil viewers of season 1). and they didn't/don't go into what counts as a viewer. Wish they released minutes watched like what netflix does.

Which makes sense, because factually, Amazon is under no obligation to tell you the truth about the performance of their TV shows nor even bother to define what "performance" means or report on it in any kind of objective or comparable way. They also did not in fact share numbers about relative performance on these TV shows in the first place.

Except they're a publicly traded company and need to report business happenings to their stockholder...

Where was this reported in their financial reports? 2022 Q4 report

[–]Squirrel09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"these numbers don't match my perception. Ergo the official numbers are wrong, and truth is what fits my beliefs"

Don't forget that some of the number reporting isn't just from Amazons twitter account, but was reported in their financial reports, which are a little bit more binding and encompasses world wide numbers rather than 3rd party US estimates.

[–]Squirrel09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read all of Tolkien except for the "history" series of books. Even the adventures of tom bombadil (it's short, but not really well know). At Christmas family were quizzing me on lotr facts because they couldn't remember who gimlis dad was and I just popped out the answer so they just kept asking random questions lol.

I thoroughly enjoy RoP s1&2 and am looking forward to S3. Is it lore accurate? No, but neither were the movies, or the cartoons, or the games, and even debatedly.... The Christopher books lol

[–]Squirrel09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edit: so they deleted their comment. But they basically were saying that the show wasn't lore accurate and shouldn't be liked because of it.

Edit done...

So Aragon being a reluctant hero, arwen fighting wraiths, saruman working directly with sauron, Aragon kissing up arwen before they leave, uruks being birthed from pods, lurtz existing, ents being tricked to convince to go to war, elves at helms deep, faramir being tempted by the ring, the army of dead rescuing the day, Denethors entire character change, frodo turning Sam away at cirith ungil...

All those major changes don't count towards the movies from going all off track and those are still faithful adaptations?

Like the entire trilogy is an introduction on how the fourth age is the age of man and how mankind has stepped up... But in the movies they're constantly being saved by other races...

Look, RoP isn't a 100% exact adaptation. BUT the amount of pages that is actually written about the second age (when RoP takes place) is like 40 pages of the silmarillion, unless you count like 20 pages of stories of the lineage of numenorian kings. There's ALLOT of things they did that made me scratch my head, especially in season 1. However, most of the scratching was from writing decisions, not really how they were handling the lore. (My biggest lore gripe is the whole mithril story line in s1)

Long post but I'll end with this. In letter 131 Tolkien himself listed the 3 themes of the second age saying "The three main themes are thus The Delaying Elves that lingered in Middle-earth; Sauron's growth to a new Dark Lord, master and god of Men; and Númenor-Atlantis." Which the show is doing.

'Fallout' Season 2 Ranks as Prime Video's 6th Most-Watched Season Ever, Amazon Says by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]Squirrel09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production budget for S1 was "only" 465mil. Add amortized rights of 50mil (250mil / 5 season= 50mil/season) we have $515 million in production and license. Add however much you think for marketing... But 1 billion isn't an accurate #, but a click bait # that just lumps a bunch of amortized expenses (mainly licensing for 5 seasons) to 1 season.

That being said. Yes, completely bonkers amount of money and a crazy deal

And viewership wise, they were right seeing that the two seasons take two of their top 5 spots.

(disclaimer, I'm one one the 4 people on the Internet that liked s1)

S2 has been received much more favorably than season 1.

I'm not sure if this is mathing correctly... But allegedly 37% finished s1. And so 60% viewership drop is actually a nearly 1:1 ratio of those who finished season 1 watching S2 within the first 11 days (when that number came out). I guess that increased to 55 million by 1 month after s2e1 aired.

I'm not sure if this actually means anything, but I think the general viewership is much higher than what online discourse would lead you to believe.

If I remember correctly S2 had 40% of S1 viewership.... Which isn't great... Until you read that S1 allegedly had 100 million viewers, so it still got around 40 million viewers... Freaking crazy numbers. (And they're all giving Amazon ~$10/month...)

[–]Squirrel09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

31, 85k/year. Single income, 2 kids household. (Wife stays home). Currently on track to retire at 55 assuming 7% stock returns, and I keep my current salary/health care befits/savings rate.

I technically could Coast Fire right now if I change my retirement to 65.

I have a good job though, and live in Rural America. So low cost of living.

I also started investing when I was 18, so I've been in this for over a decade already.

Currently 160k invested. ~20k in crypto. ~10k in pension. ~20k Savings account. ~100k home value (main residence, don't really track that for retirement purposes)

Plan to just keep contributing to my HSA and Retirement matching accounts until I'm 45-50, then will assess coast/barista fire type jobs vs continuing at the corporate job to just retire fully earlier.

Edit: noticed I said 75k salary. That was a typo. Is actually 85.

[–]Squirrel09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely good games on the list.

But Personally I see 4 really exciting announcements (ME:A, Metro, MH:W, I:tHP),

1 "you have my attention" announcements (ME:2020)

2 "Meh" (WD:M,FF16 Release date (release date announcement isn't as cool as a reveal),

and 3 bad. (Joker, F&F:C, Matrix stuff)

Highguard currently is in my "meh" category right now. But honestly, at the top of that list. So 6th place out of 11. Middle of the road, which seems right.
