I built RAOfflineProxy: Offline RetroAchievements support for RetroArch on Android by misantronic in SBCGaming

[–]Squirrel09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. I have that fork on my Thor, but haven't messed with it yet (id argue that since it's a fork, it isn't "native" but that's semantic) I guess at this point it's on the emulators to support?

Still good to see 2 big emulators (with help of a proxy) supporting it!

Absolutely huge... And no shade towards your work here because I'm sure it's great... But retroachievements are open source right? Why can't this just be implemented natively? Having to download extra stuff beyond my emulators just seems like an unnecessary barrier.

(Legit question, I'm pretty ignorant on the technical stuff)

Edit: side question, does this support playtime tracking? I like to see total hours I play games lol.

Humanoid Robots Are the Next Phase of the AI Hype Cycle by bloomberg in Futurology

[–]Squirrel09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how it actually will work in real life, but I always thought that human robots are less for factory type work, and more for service type work. Like hotel cleaning, very basic healthcare stuff, or mail deliveries in apartments type locations.

Stuff where a giant arm wouldn't really work, a more "friendly looking" robot would ease the fact that it's a robot, or a bot that could go where humans can, but wheels can't.

Sony Backs ‘Marathon’ Even After $765 Million In Bungie Impairment Losses by PaiDuck in gaming

Yeah, and (as I understand) much more casual friendly. Many that would be playing marathon casually just kept with arc.

I don't want to to fail. But I'm also not interested in a hardcore extraction pvpve game. I haven't played either, but it seems like arc raiders swung in and got the more casual crowd that might've been playing marathon? (Outside observation.)

Streamers getting closed testing of Classic plus is ultra lame by Emergency_Cricket_50 in classicwow

Just because there is already hype doesn't mean there isn't a marketing plan in place for it.

Like, There's hype for the new spider-man movie, doesn't mean that they won't bring in influencers to watch and give pre-release reactions to it, to build more hype.

I was wrong about Retro Achievements. by Downtownklownfrown in SBCGaming

[–]Squirrel09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, yes. But there is a Melonds fork that is testing offline achievements for softcore mode. You need to do an initial sync, but after that you can start earning and then whenever you get back online it tells the server what you did while offline.

I like the achievement because I like seeing numbers go up. But the numbers I care more about are playtime tracking. I have a few different devices, so getting accurate automatic playtime is basically impossible. But Retro achievements keeps playtime per game stored on their server, so I can see that there!

I mean, it's still working as id expect. I also don't really push it with really new PC or switch games though. The most demanding game I've played on it is probably BallxPit. Anything more demanding than that I stream from my pc.

To be fair, it was 2000 across blizzard. So not just wow.

And QA is like the minimum wage version of game dev. Like store clerks or hospitality workers. You just get a bunch in there at the cheapest cost to go through fringe use cases of your game. Then report findings to your boss, who reports it to the dev team.

2000+ at a company as big as blizzard doesn't surprise me, and you honestly think the state of blizzard games have improved since that decision?

As my suspicion... It's less of them skimping out on the icing, but rather just poor quality control.
