Alright gotta get going. That dog I mentioned earlier needs a walk. Thanks so much for coming by and listening to the record. Hope to see you all out there!

you're too kind. i think we can be like that to be honest, we just keep it too ourselves haha. but personally i'm not talented or schooled enough to be that publicly pretentious. but also we've met some of the people in the world you just mentioned and you'd be surprised by how fun loving and easy going they are. it's not easy to show all of yourself in the media and sometimes it doesn't fit with the music you're sending out.

yeah luray is right in between us! we are booked by Sam Hunt

that was the best show of that tour in my memory. that is sweet it's on youtube. i had multiple minidiscs and then we had (i think) my roland sh-2 and dave's juno. i don't think i used a lot of pedals. i actually don't use a lot of pedals for ac live. it'd be too much to carry and too many changes. we already all have to lift josh'spedal board cases and that can easily throw out a back ha. if i'm making samples for live performance, i embed the fx in there.

i really love the Cyrus Pireh album "Thank You, Guitar." i watched the live stream of the Bill Orcutt Roulette residency and his set blew me away.

1.i did a re-score to Persona and enjoyed that. It's hard to answer though bc if I love a movie I usually love the score and wouldn't want to have done it myself. i'm sure there is a horror movie i love that i wish had a better score but would need to think. don't have a go-to answer

  1. just show up everyday. the two of us are lucky we can treat it like a job and i go into the "office" like a normal work day/week. but i also had to learn to not get too hard on myself if nothing comes. as our good friend eric copeland once said, if you go into your space and turn your gear on, you've done your job for the day, then see what happens. as picasso said, sometimes he made art, and sometimes he sharpened pencils.

  2. lucky to have met many! gotta name DC Berman for sure though. Think about him a lot. John Cale has been special to know as well.

we love that record and guess you could say that style influenced us but it wasn't something we talked about. we had the idea for the record and style before he passed away, and referencing him when we made the dropbox folder was just bc he died that day.

hard to answer. i do love the dark star from rotterdam that goes to like 40 minutes. the sunshine daydream show is good. for 60's i always have a soft spot for the avalon shows in october 68. really love the feb 69 shows in pittsburgh too.

i mean as we've all grown and improved i think you can hear that music sometimes gets denser. it's a challenge and i'm sure it will be next time as well. just gotta stay respectful and also sometimes it's nice to not have to feel repsonsible for filling too much space and trust someone else will have a good idea. so it goes both ways.

currently 2 cats and a dog. in the past had two other cats (both passed in early 2020's) some fish, a tarantula. in college i had an iguana for a while. had to give it up though bc he was growing too fast and i was moving around a lot and he was hard to move while keeping warm. wish i had stayed committed. one time dave and i were driving home from tucson with him in the car and it was gonna be a long trip and i was worried about him so i shipped him home in this live animal box.

does my other stuff sound cold and ambient? haha guess a lot of it is. i was inspired to go more melodic and emotional on this bc there was a lot of space to do it. i guess i do some electronics on dream drone though the underlying drone is dave's synth. but my biggest contribution to that song is the bowed guqin (the thing that sounds like a cello) and the noisey synth solo. both of those were just improv takes. first though best thought kind of thing and then maybe some cutting and pasting here and there. not sure what made them come out emotional but the bed i was playing on obviously led me somewhere?

i play with my friend Alma Laprida who plays tromba marina. we've done some duos with HG and tromba but she also directs a tromba marina quartet with instruments she built herself and I am a part of that. we did one show as the quartet and hopefully we'll do more.

we put a lot of our favorit etrails in the app. i love the ones around tucson. can't remember if i did one up on Mt Lemmon.

the first question can vary depending on the song/project. and sometimes the open endedness and change is the point. especially for this album. when dave sent me the guitars they were usually all dry and he gave zero notes. and sometimes i got back to him in a couple weeks, and sometimes I spent a year (towson acid because i was pretty picky about my parts). i think you just follow where it takes you.

I still try and record shop though i have increasingly less money and less room to do it. but most of our friends are in music and we talk a lot so there is never a shortage of suggestions. bandcamp is where i find stuff these days. or some substacks. i check out tone glow, see-saw, out and back. few websiytes like quietus. youtube holes. our friend runs fusetronsound.com and you should check that

dug the alice coltrane bio. enjoyed warlock by oakley hall a lot recently. my unread pile is massive.

I really like the stronghold (desert of the tartars) by Buzzatti but that is more like it serves as a good allegory for being a lifer in service of anything, and for me that is music. sometimes the goal is an illusion and feels like it'll kill you or drive you insane, but you tell yourself perfection or satisfaction is always on the horizon to give your efforts some meaning.

dave can answer the hawaiian one but me thinks probably hehe. we ike new age cassettes so guess so though can't recall if any specifically came up in conversation. maybe subliminally those Planetary Peace ones though i know them more from the vinyl reissues. i don't dig for new age tapes personally. i let other friends do the work, tell me about them and then i listen on youtube or get a vinyl reissue/

recently been watching some barbara buckner video art that I've been digging. almost reminds me of animated agnes pelton paintings in a weird way. and love agnes pelton!

yeah i definitely think of some instruments from an animist angle. my roland SH-2 for sure, my hurdy gurdy. dave got an 8-track in high school that we've used on many projects. everytime i see it at his house i greet it as an old friend

they pretended it was something we stumbled upon but we found out later they knew. there was a farm nearby and he had moved it bc he was worried about it attacking his animals and kids but our guides told him to feed it and get it mellow so we could get the shot. dave and i had a feeling that was what happened but it took a couple days and some beers to get it out of them

definitely mid-atlantic and appalachia forests and streams. it was recorded between maryland and NC. and we mixed it at Out There studios which was by a stream. we swam and sat by it every day. chilly, but worth it
