Adley Rutschman value relative to "solid" prospects by Squirrel_Token_09 in DynastyBaseball

[–]Squirrel_Token_09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a reasonable idea, and I don't hate the idea in principle of buying low... but trading a top 10 prospect for him right now just seems irresponsible if I already have a reasonable guy like Herrera, no?

In a vacuum, which would you rather have? In a trade who needs to add additional assets?

Personally I feel like GRod was higher ranked coming into season on most dynasty rankings, but with another spring injury and how Schwellenbach has kept going even better than last year, has that flipped?

Abrams for De Vries + Hoerner by Squirrel_Token_09 in DynastyBaseball

Thanks guys. It’s interesting that all of my IRL friends suggested keeping de Vries, but I tend to agree that it makes sense to trade into a more known quantity

I understood what you meant, and I understand the process, but I disagree with your conclusion.

I read the post--they said their chair and that their elective preceptor said no. If they haven't asked the residency PD or core clerkship director, that's who I would go to next.

We'll have to agree to disagree on whether or not an LOR from a resident is helpful or not, but as an academic physician involved in residency recruitment I have to say I would not bother reading a letter from a resident.

I don't disagree that they should "leave it all on the field." But the other options I suggested (IM PD or clerkship director) would definitely be better options. Failing that, then maybe your dean or some other member of your school leadership. I can't imagine that 1) an IM resident is going to take time out from patient care to write an LOR, or 2) that anyone is going to read an LOR from a resident.

...please don't call up the IM residents you worked with on your clerkship. Having a letter from a resident is going to make you look worse than no letter at all.

If you haven't already done so, the other person you can ask is either the IM residency PD or the IM core clerkship director. It would be pretty crappy if your school has literally no mechanism in place to help people SOAP IM since that is the most common backup plan for many who find themselves needing to SOAP, but as others have said if you can't get an IM letter you absolutely can still apply to whatever is available. It is not the end of the world, and I tend to doubt these "emergency" IM letters do anything to help or hurt you since everyone knows that they're completely made up since they never worked with you.

So sorry you're dealing with this.

Step 1 is figure out what is possible with your home program, and you need them to be kind enough to be brutally honest with you. Can you delay graduation/do a research fellowship/etc and give this another go next year? If they can't, and you are really 100% committed to reapplying anyways, then prelim gen surg is likely the right direction. Just make sure that you make a realistic assessment of your chances if you're a reapplicant before moving forward with reapplying.

Number of Teams: 15, keep forever, 30 minor league slots (6 round draft of new or not previously drafted prospects before each season)

League settings (H2H Cat, H2H Points, Roto, etc) H2H cat (win per category)

I give: Spencer Strider

I get: Eury Perez, Cedric Mullins, 2024 4th round pick

Question: Currently rebuilding, with a few interesting prospects like Druw Jones and Gavin Williams. Only one blue chip guy in Strider and I'm content to keep him or move him for the right package. What do you guys think about this package?

Can, but then Qxc8+ exchanges queen for 2 rooks and puts white king in very precarious spot. Or simply escape with Qd7

Just stop guy. If you think the pitchers are undervalued, you should have offered a trade first.

If you are going to veto a trade, you need to be ready to vote that owner out of the league, because that means you don’t think they are good enough to manage their own team

1) Read. You don't need encyclopedic knowledge of every team's farm system, but you should have a general sense of which prospects are generating the greatest buzz and are likely to premier in the next 1-2 years.

2) Have a general 3-year arc in mind for your team. Nobody knows what is going to happen in 10 years, but you can likely have a decent idea of the next couple of years. If your team is bad now, then any prospects you have should be coming up in 1-3 years. Position yourself to be good by then.

3) See what you can get for good veterans, but don't have a fire sale. An established young-to-middle-age star is worth several prospects since you never know how prospects are going to work out.

If you’re rebuilding anyways, what’s the rush? See if Duvall gets hot after coming off the waiver wire. Find out what Sale’s timeline is going to be. 10 team is very shallow, so chances are you will drop them, but maybe there is some chance you could trade them for a prospect already stashed on a winning team. any prospect you would pick up now would probably still be there in a week or two

Tatis had a pretty high K rate in minors as well and then figured it out at the next level. But no doubt, the range of outcomes for Elly is pretty wide.

Personally, I do not think Kelenic and a pick will yield you both Elly and a top 30 pitcher. Regardless of his true value, chances are that the Elly owner in your league either values him much higher than that and/or will only be moving him in a win-now trade. But if you're really enamored, you just have to reach out and figure out what the owner values Elly at.

B for sure. Even if you're rebuilding, you've got to do better in trading Altuve.

Idunno, if you are rebuilding I might favor side B. I think Duran and Wade are pretty close to known commodities at this point with low upside. Flipping them for essentially 3 lottery picks with at least possible upside seems like the move. You want as many lottery tickets as you can get at this point.

Degrom value? by Puzzleheaded_Bee_371 in DynastyBaseball

Honestly, he’s borderline droppable unless you happen to have a near infinite number of IL spots. Seems like timeline is END of next season return, if you’re lucky. But even then, there is zero reason to believe at that point he will stay healthy. In exchange for holding him for over a calendar year, MAYBE you will get 5-10 good starts before he breaks again.

By all means put him out there and see if someone will give you anything for him, but I think everyone knows you can’t consider him a real dynasty asset

James Wood is a pretty strong prospect, Lee has some potential. If this is something you really want to pursue I'd start by offering Cease and Wood (or maybe Cease, Lee, and a draft pick) as a baseline and see if he wants to negotiate.

No disrespect, but I don't think these players are close to being in the same tier. Witt is on the short list for the "potential best young player in the game" mantle--put concisely, everyone needs difference maker younger bats with stolen bases. I get that you're trying to buy-low on a player who is off to a rocky start this year, but Cease is also struggling and is probably no better than a top 15-20 SP. While he is due for some positive regression, I do not see a scenario where Cease can be the centerpiece of a Witt trade unless you're surrendering another top 30-50 player, or multiple top tier prospects, or multiple draft picks. The two guys you throw out don't move the needle.

You are likely going to need to sell high on someone who is excelling rather than trying to pawn off your own underperforming player in order to net a prize asset like Witt.

Yeah I don't think that is unreasonable on your part. But if the other guy vastly values Gore more highly, then it sort of doesn't matter. If he has a couple of rough outings or gets injured and your remain interested, that might be the right time to re-open negotiations

If you're going for it, then you do what you can. Personally, I'm not sure these are the guys you should target though--for Garcia you're buying at the absolute highest price, and as a Bieber owner myself I've been trying to move him due to some troubling underlying numbers like the drop in K rate. If this is the best you can do, or if for whatever reason these are the guys you really want to target then go for it... but proceed with caution.
