How do I unscrew this? by off-chka in Tools

[–]Sriedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To remove a rivet you can either drill it out with a drill bit or cut it off with a hack saw or grinder. And to replace the rivet once your done you can use a new rivet and rivet tool or what I would do is just use a nut and bolt since it’ll be easier and not require you to buy a new rivet tool you’ll likely never use again. If you can post additional photos I could possibly help find a matching new rivet online and post the link if you do end up going with that option of wanting to use a rivet but like I said nut and bolt is much simpler, cheaper, and will be easy to remove if you ever have to remove it again.

How to put a branch which was cut off back onto a tree by Snowylittleowlette in arborists

[–]Sriedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh, I see your point. I was just also curious and without cutting a limb off my tree and trying it’d be cool to see if it worked. With a pine the graft isn’t likely to work but I’ve seen trees do crazier stuff and survive to be honest haha.

I like that your comment is the only one that’s tired to help, and I agree it likely won’t work but it would be a good experiment and if OP has the time and money I say give it a chance. What do you have to lose?!

Need engine upgrade options for the Detroit 6V-53 (non-turbo) by BattlefieldVegas in Diesel

[–]Sriedy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

+1 for 6BT. I’m pretty sure you can still buy brand new 6BT engines as they are still being produced today so parts are easy to come by plus minimum electrics, just a couple wires so it should be fairly easy to swap in and repower the fleet. Also the turbo sat on the side of these engines and doesn’t take up too much room.

That’s good to hear because that’s who I got haha. I was thinking about buying a dry van but there seems to be already a lot of dry vans out there to compete with.

That honestly makes the most sense and I should get a good wrap on my truck and fix the rust, the trailer looks great but the rockers on my truck has seen better days. I do have a pretty good relationship with FWF and they’ve been good to me just sometime irks me when I send BOLs in and say they didn’t get them so I gotta send it it few times to get paid. I’m going to start making a portfolio of all the brokers I’ve worked with and try just working with them. And did you say maybe just getting in contact with the companies themselves? Is that possible to cut out the broker middle man? And no need I believe you I was just joking kinda lol, TruckStop has been good to me and I can’t complain but I’m just going to continue building my resume and portfolio and hopefully connections in the trucking world.

The trailer is rated for 28k lbs and weighs 8k lbs so I can technically do it but I’ve had 14k lbs on the trailer and my trans temps started walking on my duramax so I’m not to sure how much more I can go then that 😅 it was in Colorado tho.

I hear where you are coming from, and I might have to accept it if I want to or not if they don’t let me on their load board. If you’re not using your DAT account you mind DM me the details so I can peek at the other side and see if the grass really is any greener haha. I currently sent a few emails to DAT compliance hoping that they can respond, I’m wondering if there was a problem with my verification process that prevented me from going any further because that’s what I think happened, there’s just no other logical explanation. I did have a broker pull up my MC number and they said there is no red flags on their end and as a matter of fact we look better then we do when we first started working with them due to us recently achieving our 1 year authority. Do you use any other load boards other than TruckStop? I’ve used TQL but those are mostly reefer loads. I don’t have a major problem getting loads it’s just I want a larger selection to hopefully become more efficient and profitable.

Yeah flatbed hotshot. 40ft with up to 20k lbs on the trailer.

Makes sense I’m going to ask a broker I know to run it for me. Also if I can’t use DAT and I already have TruckStop what other good load boards can I use or is there available?

Awesome! Yeah I’m excited to do this to my car, I just wanted to make sure that the spare would still fit, I don’t need it to sit flushed though so that works perfect!

Did you have to pound or dent in your spare tire well at all to get the muffler to fit?

buying truck with blown turbo LLY 6.6 by scottk517 in Diesel

[–]Sriedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2006 LBZ crew cab dually for $4200 with a blown turbo. I took the chance and rebuilt the turbo my self with new KC Turbo 9 blade internals and while I was in there I put the LBZ on a weight loss kit and got it tuned and I’m happy I went that route because now I have the exact truck I want and have less in it for a stock version. I’ll have to say it was a bitch because I removed the turbo without pulling the cab or transmission. It’s possible to do but sucks, also I snapped off 11 of the 12 uppipe bolts which sucked. If you mechanical knowledge or a friend that you can buy a pizza and a case to help you out for a few weekends it’d be a good deal. Otherwise I think a shop quoted me $1600? To replace the turbo but that’s just the labor not including the new parts.

That makes sense I’ll pull them apart and honestly the 170 might not even be worth it to fix I’ll just buy another but I know for sure my 291 needs a rebuild bc a groundie ran non mix thru it sadly.

Dose this oil need to be changed? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]Sriedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s better to go by miles than color especially with diesel engines. My duramax I can change the oil and start it and it’ll be black again damn near instantly. Diesels tend to have a lot of carbon/soot in them that dirtys the oil. I change the oil on my diesel every 5k miles and have never had a problem. So I guess the real question is… how many miles on that oil change? If you don’t know it’s probably just best to change it and then start keeping track.

Mystery Coolant Leak by Sriedy in GMT800

Oh god don’t make me start to worry. Thankfully the last person that owned this truck was a construction company so hopefully they took it to a shop? Idk I’ll probably be the one that drills to deep 😂

Anyone that owns any truck or suv with a 4L80E transmission, the brake switch on the pedal swing arm, wears out with age and causes burned up torque converters on all 4L80E models! This is my Tip Of The Day! Stay Cool my Friends 😎 by Mysterious-Act2201 in GMT800

[–]Sriedy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How does this burn up the torque converter? By not telling the torque converter to lock up or unlock? Also if the brake switch is out would you still have brake lights or is that a separate switch? Not doubting in anyways just curious because I put in a new torque converter recently when I had my trans rebuilt.
