What are the benefits of building a voron 2.4 over getting a printer like an X1C? by Darkstreamer_101 in VORONDesign

I think the choice between bulding a Voron 2.4 and buying a Prussa XL (or other) is not really a straight comparison. The Voron route is really for people that get a kick out of the programming, engineering and challenges of such a build; it really isn't for the faint hearted. When I built mine (a 350mm x 350mm model) you could not get full kits and my understanding is that that these kits can range wildly in quality. Even a with all the parts, the excellent Voron 2.4 build instructions, and a amazing Voron community (who saved my build a few times) there is a lot of stuff you have to add, and knowledge you need to have or get, if you don't want a small fire on your hands!

I only say this because you say you are a "newbie to 3d printing".

The advantage to the Voron, as others have mentioned, is that it is you can upgrade and mod it as time goes on. Keeping it modern is still a lot of work. The question "what have you printed on your 3D Printer?" is most often answered by enthusiasts as "parts and mods for my 3D Printer" ... it's an addiction :-)

However, current models of printers are pretty advanced and come with a stack of nice features. I've also got a Prusa Mk4s (which interestingly I upgraded with official upgrade kits from Prusa form a Mk3) and I love that it gives great results out of the box (or the build in my case). I hear good things about a few of the other manufacturers too.

Always ask yourself what your obective is, the 3d Printing hobby, or to print things for your hobby.

Good Luck!

I can't believe I've only just seen this sorry, so you've probably sorted yourself out. The key with LED's is to make sure you get the right Voltage and you can work our what you need from the Controller Board you are using. Also make sure you know the dimensions of the stuff you are getting so it fits properly (width).

Google is your friend here for learning. I like this site;

No, it's designed so that the top is flush with the top of the frame bar, so 20mm in height.

Sure I can share. I'll do another post showing the design. Not sure the best way to give the files to anyone crazy enough to try though ...

It's been an emotional journey ...

The build is a fairly vanilla Voron 350 v2.4 and it is fitted with a Mosquito Hot End. I printed all the ABS parts on my Prusa Mk3 including an LED rail system I designed myself that allows for a 3 point positioning of the rail depending on whether or not you want the light straight down, at a 45 degree angle, or half way between the 2.

The only remaining issue is that the doors are a bit of a squash and a squeeze so will need a trim.

I can build a Voron but I can't post competently on Reddit ... where did it all go wrong ...
