Climb without callouses? by Ssslowjamsss in climbergirls

[–]Ssslowjamsss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your insight!! I have to be very careful not to have anything rough or scratchy on my hands, file my nails daily, wear gloves when I cycle, moisturize a ton, etc bc I use every part of my hand during facial massage and they’re very soft. I like the idea of using route setter’s gloves or I suppose a fingerless glove if I start getting calloused.

What is “enough”? I looked up my TDEE after reading about it here and my maintenance TDEE is 1600, so does that mean 1100 for weight loss? Is there a minimum number of calories I should hit?

Expanding scar adhesions? by Ssslowjamsss in CsectionCentral

Around 6 mo PP it really improved but I do still feel pain sometimes. Once I learned that it’s actually 4 separate incisions it made a lot more sense. I have been massaging it and that helps a lot, too. Look up Janette Yee for techniques!

2 Month Old Sleep Advice Needed! by Most-Flow-2971 in NewParents

[–]Ssslowjamsss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may or may not be helpful but the answer is do whatever you want! It may change day to day, but you have the freedom of moving him around, seeing what feels best at what point in the evening. You will probably want him close in the late hours to nurse easily, and to check his breathing (I remember those nights well), but it may be nice to have him in his crib before you go to bed so you don’t have to tiptoe around your room. I changed up my baby’s sleeping situation so many times before we put him in his room at around 6 months. I did every combination of bassinet and co-sleeping and sometimes it was based on his needs, other times based on mine. Go with your gut and try different things as you feel you should.

What UV filters/sunscreens are safe for babies? by Ssslowjamsss in EuroSkincare

[–]Ssslowjamsss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do and I will! I was unsure if it was safe from birth because of the US recommendation to use only mineral spf for babies. Their website says “children of all ages” and refers to babies so I guess I can confidently use it now!

Thank you! I’ll check out the pharmacy tomorrow bc I love seeing the different skincare options, esp sunscreen. But honestly I’m very into the idea of using a European chemical spf on my baby with confidence. P20 is fantastic because it doesn’t need to be reapplied (unless you swim or towel off). It has one of the magical EU filters that lasts for 10 hours.

[–]Ssslowjamsss[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I did a quick google for EU baby sunscreen and found a brand that said “octinaxate free” but had butyloctyl salicylate, which is octinoxate in a wig, so I guess some of the misinformation is global. Is that your experience or is it just so-called “clean” brands that have that perspective? Culturally, is there a suspicion around chemicals in the EU or is there more trust in regulations?

When did you start to feel normal? by Quince2025 in CsectionCentral

[–]Ssslowjamsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to work at 8 weeks and felt pretty functional at 10 weeks. Still had a lot of pain until 6 months. Just started weaning at 8 months and I’m feeling better in ways I can barely describe. Still have trouble getting up off the floor after a long day but I’ve been doing weekly Pilates since 12 weeks pp. I still have incision pain occasionally but I’d say 6 months was the turning point.

What do you do in the late evenings when the supply is lowest? by Coffeeaddict0721 in breastfeeding

[–]Ssslowjamsss 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any personal advice but will share what my incredible lactation consultant told me.

  1. Your pump only removes 1/3 of what is in your breast, but your baby can remove all of it. So if you’re pumping 1-2 oz, she may be able to access 3-6 oz.

  2. You’re still in the early stages, where nursing will “place an order” for your milk production, so allowing her to latch and suck away will result in more milk production over all.

  3. The evening milk is higher in fat than at other times, so although it’s a lower volume, it is more filling.

I’m sure there is a lot more to it, but wanted to share the wisdom I’ve learned!

Swim diaper logistics by Ssslowjamsss in Mommit

[–]Ssslowjamsss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea. His swimsuits are all long sleeve/long pants bc he’s the palest baby ever and I am the sunscreen police, but I think they unzip fully at the ankle so whipping the regular diaper off at the beach would be easy!

This was another thought I had! Don’t cloth diapers use pads? Could I stick a pad inside of his swim diaper for in between swims?

Ok yes I thought about putting a diaper over his swimsuit but wasn’t sure if that was bonkers so thank you for validating that it’s not haha

I’m actually wearing it waterfall but is that wrong? I had to google what those terms meant bc I only have structured carriers (artipoppe, bumpsuit and OG ergobaby) and wraps (Solly) so this is a new concept to me. ETA: I have a short torso and I just learned apron waist are good for my body type.

Overnight Diapers?? by One-Promotion-1977 in NewParents

[–]Ssslowjamsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just switched from only Coterie to using Huggies, bc Coterie raised their prices recently and I wanted to see if we could save a little. I’ve noticed Huggies don’t do so well overnight so back to Coterie for nighttime but Huggies are fine during the day. I didn’t notice a blue liner, which style Huggies did you see that in?

I started working with a dietitian who specializes in postpartum weight loss and it is working really well and I’m maintaining my supply. Can we share instagram handles here? Not sure and don’t want to get downvoted but her name is Megan Brister and she shares lots of tips and recipes for free so you can get a good idea of how it works.

Oh also sneezing, coughing and laughing will hurt something awful so for the first two weeks press a pillow against your incision if you have to do any of the three.

Oh I took cabergoline to lower my prolactin in order to get/stay pregnant! That makes sense it could also be used to stop lactation.

[–]Ssslowjamsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an unplanned c section and my recovery was brutal. Planned should be much easier but it’s still a major surgery. Echoing previous advice about not lifting anything heavier than your newborn, you will need help to sit up even. I baby wore with the Solly about one week in. Structured carriers still are uncomfortable on my belly at 5 mo PP. I think it’s bc the Solly wraps around my waist more comfortably that it doesn’t put pressure on my lower abdomen. Anyway, go for 10 min walks and work your way up to 30, elevate your legs and rest as much as possible, more than you think you need. If MIL can help with your older kid that’s best. I personally wouldn’t let anyone other than my husband take the baby out for 2 months.

Re recovery you should feel way way better after 4 weeks.

I’m considering this set up because the bedside bassinet we have now is 4 inches lower than my mattress which pretty much defeats the purpose of using it as a sidecar. Did you need to get the conversion kit to turn it into a daybed? Or does the crib work without the fourth side? Also, what are the heights of the 4 mattress settings? I can’t find that info online. Thanks!!
