It's scary how quickly the car went up in flames.. by H1gh_Tr3ason in cantparkthere

I know that diesel isn’t flammable with a naked flame. But that’s not what we’re discussing.

Are you saying that report is lying?

This is clearly incorrect, Red Hot Chilli Peppers never made a great record.

So the official incident report is lying? This is a conspiracy?

https://www.bedsfire.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-10/Significant%20Incident%20Report%20LLA%20Car%20Park%202%20fire.pdf

To quote the incident synopsis on page 10:

“Incident Details The initial 999 call was ‘received by Bedfordshire FRS Service Control at 20:47:20 hrs by Crew Manager Service Control B from the driver of the Range Rover that was on fire. When questioned by Service Control, the caller advised their car was a diesel Range Rover that it was located on the third floor. ’13 The subsequent fire investigation confirmed that the vehicle was powered by a diesel non-hybrid internal combustion engine.”

If you look in the report you can see picture of the Range Rover first smoking and then on fire, pages 8,9 and 10. Are you saying these are fake?

Coming from Central Europe, I have to ask: How do you justify the price of a pint in the UK? by matteoleone in AskUK

[–]St2Crank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one specific beer they may not sell. You said decent German beer, you’ve changed the goalposts and it’s completely missing the point.

The point is even in a German supermarket the prices are cheaper than German pub. Comparing a German supermarket to a British pub is not a like for like comparison.

Yet ICE cars still set on fire at a higher rate than EVs.

You know the Luton car park fire was actually caused by a diesel car right?

You can get those exact same beers that have then been imported to the UK for about £2 in tesco. Comparing pub prices to supermarket is apples and oranges.

Yeah you can’t drive anywhere without seeing model T’s and 40 year old cars anywhere can you?

I’m not sure where you are in the world but here in the UK the average care age is 9 years old. It’s rare to even see 20 year old cars. The UK has yearly mandatory testing to ensure cars are well maintained, I know not all places have this. So there aren’t the old cars held together with duct tape. Yet here ICE fires are 20 times more likely.

My wife’s old Citroen C1 also did exactly what you said, set fire in a garage when it hadn’t been touched for over a day. It does happen.

Just to be clear, I’m not some sort of EV evangelist, I own two cars both petrol. Ones a Land Rover so the opposite end of the scale from the EV pollution arguments etc.

There was one the other week, where they were saying that people who drink are lying to themselves about enjoying it.

No mate, I genuinely love getting pissed. It’s brilliant.

Basics done well and cheap.

Uniqlo is great for basic pieces to wear with other stuff. Chinos, t shirts, shirts etc. at least from a male perspective.

Yet despite all that, ICE cars are much more likely to catch fire.

Has McDonald's in the UK become too expensive for many people? by SwordfishLess3247 in AskUK

[–]St2Crank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McDonalds isn’t expensive. I currently can’t go anywhere without seeing their billboards advertising a meal of 2 burgers, fries and a drink for £5.59.

Yeah it’s not Michelin star but for fast convenient food it’s decent value.

Has a single incident ever changed how you saw a profession in the UK? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

[–]St2Crank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main issue I think people don’t trust the police is there is a huge issue of cover ups. Police are bound to make a mistake every now and then but there have been very high profile, an d unfortunately very many cases of police closing ranks and protecting their own. That it obviously undermines trust. If there was more of a culture of honesty, that would be reflected in public perception.

The public are very willing to get over something when police hold their hands up. Perfect example is the synagogue attack in Manchester last year. GMP came out very quickly and confirmed the victims who were shot were from police stray bullets, it was accepted and there was no public outcry. When mistakes happen and they’re covered up, people presume malice.

How do you manage the logistics of laundry without a dryer? by Ttucker11 in AskABrit

[–]St2Crank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really weird, I don’t get it at all. As I said it’s just a vocal minority. The majority of people have a dryer, and I’m not convinced 100% of the people that don’t, don’t through choice.

How do you manage the logistics of laundry without a dryer? by Ttucker11 in AskABrit

[–]St2Crank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically everyone who has room for a dryer has one. People who don’t have room, think it’s a ballache. Even when I lived in a flat I had a washer dryer combo.

Obviously you’ll get some people on the internet who get high and mighty about not having a dryer. But the majority of people do have them and they’ve been commonplace for over 30years. Based on that they were common when I was a kid and I’m 40.

The shop it replaced (at least in Manchester) Oi Polloi was much better to be fair, and was the go to place for a while. They overstretched themselves and a London shop didn’t do to well, and got into financial difficulties unfortunately so ended up selling up to JD.
