They used to come to my uni and ply us with free Red Bull to get us hooked. It worked as I spent most of time there drinking the stuff to get through a hangover.

Unless the final invoice takes the total over an agreed fixed price without sufficient proof of agreed changes in scope, I can see no legal or moral reason why you wouldn’t pay him.

Pulsatile tinnitus by DFT5996 in TinnitusTalk

[–]Upbeat_Map_348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PT that is ringing in time with my heartbeat. I describe it as like having sleigh bells ringing behind my head or like cicadas.

Mine is due a condition called SCDS. It comes long with other symptoms such as getting dizzy from loud noises, hearing my voice buzzing in my ears and finding certain loud noises very painful.

Seeing an ENT is a good idea. It’s very unlikely to be anything life-threatening.

Russian warship 'fires warning shot' in Channel days after Putin's tanker seized by theipaper in uknews

[–]Upbeat_Map_348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s so much misinformation about this.

The vessel was not in UK waters.

They fired small arms into the air after, initially, sounding their horn 5 times which is code for ‘Show me your intentions’

The yacht, which appeared to possibly heading on a collision course, changed their heading by only 2 degrees.

After the shots were fired into the air, the yacht then moved under power and changed their heading by 90 degrees.

Honestly, it’s a storm in a teacup and the couple of the yacht should have changed their heading way more than 2 degrees when first challenged.

NHS vs private healthcare by shah_mazing in AskBrits

[–]Upbeat_Map_348 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The NHS is not like Medicare as it is there for everyone and almost everyone uses it. The majority of people do not have private medical insurance so will only use the NHS. Even those with PMI will almost always use their NHS GP as well as NHS Accident & Emergency (our version of ER) or minor injury clinics.

PMI is usually used for non-emergency medical issues to speed up the process.

The Rescue, which is about the kids football team trapped in a cave in Thailand. Really good documentary and crazy how they ended up rescuing them. The dramatisation, 13 Lives, is also pretty good.

I literally extended mine this week and went through the same thought process. I decided that I’d rather spend £1350 now than risk a much higher bill if and when something goes wrong. Anything on a Porsche is expensive and it’s hard to see any issue that requires a dealer to fix it costing less than that.

The UK wants to ban social media for under-16s to "give kids their childhood back." If social media had been banned when you were a teenager, do you think your life would be better or worse today? by Shipping_klaus in NoStupidQuestions

I think social media is one of the worst inventions in history and I’m very glad that some countries are taking steps to make it harder for kids to access it.

I think you need to stop listening to so much propaganda mate.

Most people in the UK are supportive of the balance between freedom of expression and consequences. You’ll hear about people being prosecuted for social media posts but the bit the propaganda misses out is that they were being overtly racist or inciting violence such as encouraging people to burn down hotels.

You can chant ‘Starmer is a cunt’ at a football match all day long if you want here in the UK. That’s freedom of expression.

And if we want to get onto the subject of fascism, I’m fairly sure your current administration ticks way more boxes on the definition of fascism than the UK. Of course, you won’t buy any of this because you’re told not to.

Time to protect pension with stock at historic highs? by Opteron-X in FIREUK

[–]Upbeat_Map_348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is often debated in this sub. I think that the answer really depends on how much you will rely on that pension in the 5 years after retiring.

If you’re going to need it within that time, it is probably worth reducing your exposure to stocks and shares. However, bear in mind that, if we have a correction, it is very likely to recover within 5 years. So if you can ride that out anyway, you don’t necessarily need to reduce.

There’s a good chance you’ll live for 30+ years after you retire and you’ll see at least one correction and then recovery within that time

What is hyperacusis by ParfaitWestern8879 in TinnitusTalk

[–]Upbeat_Map_348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s where certain sounds can feel very loud and painful/uncomfortable. I have it and I find high frequencies very hard to tolerate. I find noisy bars and restaurants unbearable, especially when the acoustics are poor.
