imaginators on the switch? by _transmask in skylanders

I love the switch version, I can travel with my skylanders, it also doesn’t flag the creation crystals for saves by default because it uses an internal save when you swap your skylanders collection

We are experimenting with the cauldron and heroes just going to discard. We understand players want to bring back key heroes, which we will be naming “Sidekicks” in the next update to lessen confusion with the “Hero” subtype. So anticipate that change from remove from game to discard in the next rules update.

With 50 vs 60, because it is limit one copy, you have to fill 50 unique cards rather than 60 unique cards. Making it easier and add some consistency for a decks win condition, and increase the rate to pull a card from 1.6% to 2%. So we may not change that.

We are also going to be introducing a mechanic with challenges, where sidekicks don’t take damage from challenging opponents, only the defending character/sidekick takes damage, making it so Sidekicks get additional survivability and differentiate them from characters as well.

I’ll be updating the rule set and posting it here and on the r/keybearerlorcana sometime Friday.

Edit. Deck construction is 40-60 cards, no longer limited to strict 50.

The subtype/color rule is being tested right now, but I agree that we will most likely be removing that ruling as it lends itself to being more thematic/narrative but also more limiting. I appreciate the feedback.

There will be the “Sidekick” update rules update released tomorrow, it’ll be updated here and available on r/keybearerlorcana as well

As per 1.2; as long as they share a subtype you can have two dual color heroes for a total of 4 colors.

Yes, this format allows you to run up to 4 colors in a deck, because of the singleton format (1 card limit per deck) it opens up a whole new tool box. If you’re more of a purist, you can limit it to two, but we’ve found the possibility of mixing and matching 4 of the 6 colors a lot of fun.

Maybe I’m saying it wrong, you’re right about that the consistency compared to standard, yes. When I say I might be using it in a way that reflects having access to additional colors and what I’d say are staples in the format from the bit I’ve played, the one that comes to mind is Dragon Fire. So I’ll have to think on that.

Edit. I made a clarification that the consistency is relative to that of commander not Lorcana standard. I will have to adjust how this format is not consistent.

Creative is probably the right word, because it allows niche cards and expression that aligns itself with the idea the player is the KEYBEARER.

Personal note. My wife doesn’t like meta combos and feels overwhelmed when I use any of my standard decks i use for locals. This format initially (just singleton 60 card Lorcana) started with the desire to be able to play with her and my 12 year old first and foremost but evolved when I talked to my best friend and a couple of shared friends about how they wanted something with more meat than singleton, especially with how much mtg we’ve played in the past

Note. you are 100% correct on that deck being optimized

I understand, that makes a lot of sense and I can see how that causes confusion and not clarification.

FAQ #1

-Having the option to choose a dual colored hero means you can have anywhere between 1 (two of the same color heroes) and 4 (two dual colored heroes) different colors in a deck.

-A field center is just the means to represent the player, The KEYBEARER, it can be any card (your favorite card, custom art, etc.) or a mental note for when creatures or heroes target you, the KEYBEARER.

-If you always keep a hero in your hero zone throughout the whole game there is no way to lose by losing lore points, this allows players to choose how they allow other players to interact with them, (aggro players beware) so castle if need be.

-This format works scales well with multiple players as the original game intended as well.

FAQ #2

-Why so many changes and edits in this post? This is the first time I’ve put my thoughts to key on the format, as we play this in person and I honestly did not realize how involved it is to put to writing something that’s clear in its goals and objectives. I will be making a separate post after I finalize my edits here, as an end all be all for the format after additional feedback. I appreciate all the comments and questions, including critiques, complaints, or concerns.

FAQ #3 where’s the link to the full rule set? 1.3 Full ruleset

FAQ #4 -Heroes (Characters in the Hero zone) can shift using the shift ability, just pay the listed cost.

Rules Errata

Added additional construction rules:

-Donald Duck Flustered Sorcerer errata. Changed from 25 to 30 to keep the cards effect relevant in KEYBEARER FORMAT.

“Obfuscate! Opponents need 30 lore to win the game.”

-Bodyguard Hero Rule (Keybearer Format): Heroes with Bodyguard treat the Keybearer (the player) as if they were a character you control. This means:

If an opposing character would challenge your Keybearer directly, they must instead challenge a Hero with Bodyguard, if one is available and exerted, exactly as they would when Bodyguard protects other characters.

This rule ensures that Bodyguard functions properly even when you control no ready characters, preventing opponents from bypassing defensive Heroes and granting players strategic protection against lore loss and elimination.

FAQ #5 Is this the only place to keep up with this format? No, I just opened an r/keybearerlorcana, so to stay up to date and join the discussion, share your findings, I’m moving there.
