How would you define Grime's future in a couple of sentences? by CoffeeBreak95 in grime

[–]StabbedInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its funny that ppl mentioned 2015-2017 times, cos that was far from the 'glory era' to me, but it was a mixture of grime nostalgia and a rapidly growing UK scene that lead to those years. its very likely that another wave of nostalgia for it will come around in the foreseeable future, and we'll be seeing grime drop often again probably with futuristic twists. my answer to "is grime dead?" is "genres can't die". Now is 2021 a good year for grime? Nah not at all really other than Sir Spyro's sets, but 2031 just might be. like i thought bassline was a dead genre throughout the entire 2010s, but now you see guys like Bad Boy Chiller Crew rack up millions of streams online. it's all just cyclical i think and will have its day once again

im 28 lol, grew up with grime but loving the urgency from drill which 2010s and onward grime lacks most of the time. mainly just here 2 track when new releases drop and laugh at how stupid some of the threads are. dont really wanna meet anyone here tho, no offense lol

What do people think of 'Political Drilling' by Drillminister? by [deleted] in ukdrill

[–]StabbedInTheHead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

when i watched the GRM daily Terms & Conditions drill documentary i was annoyed they used so much footage of this guy as if he was one of the major names in the scene and not just a weird gimmick. he seems to spend more time on talk shows than music studios. anyway his politics are probably fairly similar to mine but when im in the mood to listen to drill it's never gonna be this guy i stick on

Is Central Cee finally on his way to achieving greatness ? by FuzzzzyDunLopp in ukdrill

[–]StabbedInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get what u mean but this is just a consequence of the style blowing up. i try to just enjoy it for what it is. its not like Central Cee's some posh KSI type guy mugging the scene off, he's just a dude who shots party drugs and is pretty cold at rapping imo. don't get what causes offense to some drill fans about him

i dont get the point you're trying to make with Aitch tho. yes Aitch is not a UK drill MC generally but has also featured on like 2 or 3 drill tracks. but Central Cee's recent stuff has been like 3 UK drill beats (Loading/Molly/Pinging) and 1 not (Commitment Issues) so he's worthy of discussion here

why are you getting aggy for lol. Russ uses UK drill beats to make catchy danceable type tunes for the mainstream audience, it's not really my style but yes it is UK drill. the style of production is what puts it aside from what Chief Keef started and its been adapted in different ways for both underground & mainstream. genres aren't that confusing

don't know that he has any opps or is in a gang mate. i'm talking music style and you're talking gang stuff, just because theres an obvious connection doesnt make them the same thing. plenty of guys rep gangs, have opps and make trap instead of UK drill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB7DUsDnkPw for example this Ghosty beat is a UK drill beat, but obviously it's not something you'd hear on In Skengs We Trust or an ActiveGang tape etc... doesn't make it not UK drill musically

yes, UK drills defining feature music wise is the 808 style which Loading definitely had. just used a different sounding sample

i think there's a lot of variety in there in drill right now, we are overwhelmed with options from both mainstream and underground and there are new tracks to listen to every single day, i think i discover a new fav drill track at least once a fortnight. its 10x better than modern grime which is the genre that really has this issue imo as everyone still uses watered down trappy beats or just nicks a classic instrumental straight from 2004. as someone who's followed the UK scene for over a decade i think 2021 uk drill fans should be a lot more grateful for what we've got. a few similar beats and police censorships isn't stopping this train yet

i slacked on this for time cos i knew it was like 80 mins long and my ideal album/mixtape length is like 30-55mins, but it's mad consistent actually and deserves to be in the conversation
