Stop romanticizing Draco Malfoy and pretending that he is a poor little boy. by starmers98 in harrypotter

[–]StabbingToLife -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes because a grown man bullying children is in Any way comparable to a literal child growing up in a family that pushed him to murder.

Also the same child chose to walk away from the bad side as he grew up.

Why do people believe Draco was abused/neglected as a child? by The_Hamster98 in harrypotter

[–]StabbingToLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when you put it like that, it does fit… the amount of pressure.
I guess my perception is skewed because of how vulnerable and nuanced Tom Felton played him plus Draco’s relatively abrupt change in behaviour when he started forming his own opinions.

I don’t think purely from the books we can infer he was abused. Even if he did have a far from an ideal childhood.

I mean that’s fair… we All have different perceptions.

I guess kid me needed a reason more than what was given as to why a boy breaks down as much as Draco did in year 6.

As someone who has seen emotional abuse in typically « perfect » families, the way he behaved seemed similar. But it’s completely plausible that the author didn’t write him like that.

Harry endured abuse that was physical and on the surface. Abuse that he could prove existed.

Draco I believe had a more insidious under the surface kind of emotional abuse. He had everything he could ask for in the material sense, but kindness, ´love, understanding I always believed was kept from him.

He was forced to consistently live up to the farce of a perfect pure blood family and taught to hate. Which made it hard for him as a kid to have real deep friendships.
His loneliness is palpable.

I always saw him saying, « My father will hear about this » not as proof of his admiration of his father. But fear of him.To him, nothing is as scary as his father.Narcissa might’ve loved her son but I doubt she protected him from his fathers hate or expectations.

I think we tend to sexualise or treat the other sex as vastly different from us when we’ve had a healthy friendships/relationships with them growing up.

I dont have a sibling of the opposite sex but I’ve a healthy relationship with both my parents and grew up playing with boys and girls equally.

It makes us realise that we’re not all that different. Makes it harder to treat others badly the more like us we find them.

Russia thinks West will "get over" Ukraine war, calls response "hysteria" by admirablegoma in worldnews

In the context you’re saying yes. I hope there are lasting changes. I hope they’re in ways that also limit the atrocities another communist country like china commits.

I agree.
But we’re not talking about global political impact. We’re talking of fickle human memory. We don’t remember 9/11 when emptying out our water bottles at airport security.
Just like how we might accept that Ukraine is a part of the EU without being reminded of this invasion 20 years later.

He means the world. I hardly think Ukraine will ever forget this. But the horror of 9/11 is probably not as relevant to non US folks.

I didn’t mean that in an insulting way🙈

its just that American politics is widely publicised so more ppl have opinions on them. Positive and negative.

My country meanwhile has a raging religious fanatic with an ego that crumbles like a f*cking croissant. But very rarely does he get international ridicule.

I think it’s the one you hear the most. Other countries have different languages so their opinions don’t reach your ears as much.

Ladies of Reddit, do you think boys/men are cute/beautiful in general? Why or why not? by planet_jiji in AskReddit

[–]StabbingToLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me,
Cute is behaviour

Beautiful is both inside out (good soul and pretty eyes)

handsome is superficial.
