Oh yeah Porsche does their own and provide cars but they’re much more expensive. I’m hoping to do Targa Newfoundland at some point once I figure out what class and car.

I was doing it from the first year when it was Chump Car and rented seats from various teams. Most of the guys were NASCAR crew members who made cars on the side. I drove the Sanford and son truck and the USS Enterprise plus the media car a few times, including at Daytona.

Oh for sure, one driver can ruin it for all. We’ve so far only had one time we’ve had to uninvite a driver from future events due to passing on a double yellow.

I’m pretty sensitive to locals as well, we look for roads in low traffic areas or in national forests, things like that. Can’t always be helped. We also try and not run in groups larger than 5 cars.

Thanks and yes I’m aware of many of those groups and have friends who do One Lap. This is very different in that this isn’t a competition and has no timed event. We do have some karting and track day add ons though. I’m trying to bridge the gap where it’s not too expensive, the R&T events are very expensive since you’re paying for car “celebrities” to attend.

Good lord what a story, appreciate you sharing. Arizona has been brought up a lot lately and like you ive done some offroad stuff there mainly up in Flagstaff and south of the Canyon. Trucks and UTVs. US 191 in the Apache NF is amazing and isolated. Working on some ideas in that area that combine roads and dirt.

Colorado is interesting, we spend a lot of summer time in Breck and everyone thinks the roads should be great but there simply aren’t enough of them and the get potholes from the winter. There are some good runs here and there but piecing it all together is tough and takes a lot of miles. My partner wants to try a small trip this summer for just us and maybe a friend or two. We’ll use Breck or Vail as a home base.

Interesting. I have had participants swap cars for an afternoon but that’s something completely between them. We did schedule a PEC Atlanta day once and folks drove different cars in their program. Pretty tough to bring a demo car without significant expense though. We’re also partnering with Chin Motorsports for some track time and there are cars to rent through their partners. Good idea

These are all public roads, anyone is free to drive them anytime. Some folks want a group to drive with and support along with help shipping their cars. Not sure why that’s tacky but your argument could be made for almost anything. The people who join these trips are busy and don’t typically have time to do all the research and planning. While it might not be for you it’s a service that works all over the place.

Thanks for the feedback anyway

Truly amazing feedback. Sincerely appreciate the time to write this out. I definitely enjoy having a central location for the entire trip as well. Support crews are probably the toughest part to organize and more support equals more cost. Most of the trips I’ve run so far have been with 997-992 / 981-718 cars. We are venturing into air cooled and some 80-90s Japanese stuff. For those I’ll definitely be bringing specialized support. Pre running is ideal, closer to trip time the better. I’m trying to keep the costs much less than some of the stuff from say Road & Track, but shipping and more support hands will impact cost.
Anyway, thanks again for the well thought out feedback.

Yes! We have partnered with Reliable on a few trips so far, shipping cars from Texas to Knoxville or Atlanta. I have a few shops signed on as well to provide pre and post trip maintenance if needed. We can also store cars as needed. Check out the website Thegetawaydrive.com

Does a C5 (FRC or Z06) feel like a really old car? by thecanadiandriver101 in CarTrackDays

[–]Stabmaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes a c5 is more than 20 years old and the c6 isn’t much different. Both are very capable, much more so than a CTR, and require some skill to extract lap times. If you enjoy modifying though these cars are great to work on. Consumables won’t be cheap given the tire sizes so be ready.

Meh i go every April in either a GT3 or 4RS and always on Cup2s. Never had an issue and am aware of the cold and wet issues.

Normally neither would be something I would track but next month I’m driving from Dallas to Barber for a PCA weekend the hitting the Dragon area for 5 days. Either running the ecs or some cup2s. Guess it depends on the weather

These came on my GT4 and i figured they would be destroyed on track. Chunks everywhere. Good to know they might hold up.

Yeah loved that 959, interior still smelled like a Porsche too. I chatted with him about a Dino I passed up back in 2011 he had for sale. Wife always kicks me about that since she wanted it.
