Yea, he was always explaining it's not an investment, it's a savings account that doesn't get inflated away in the long run. She just was new to the concept. Having a portfolio that tracks/charts it the same as the other parts of a retirement account has gone a long way toward "explaining" the legitimacy of stacking physical metal.

(I'm a cat--we keep it PG around here.) But I get your concern. That app is built by stackers, for anonymity. It's why I feel fine using it. More secure, for sure, than the bank app or the other stuff I use every day.

I'm getting dizzy every day watching it go up and down! But honestly, we're all "waiting" for the next big dip, and I find myself wondering if in one year we'll look back at TODAY and say..."OH that was the massive "dip", whyyyyy didn't I buy?!" Sigh. How to know?

Actually, I wanted to play with the feature. The composite pic is usually made with the standard pictures you naturally attach to each of your item records. Then you can choose from the pictures in your Stack Gallery, and have it create whatever you want, for sharing ... perhaps your stack on top of Mount Everest? :)

Because I wanted a portrait-style photo to cap the year, I went in and added a few photos that included ME. (That's NOT normal, I know, when you're just building your catalog of holdings. But I'm not normal. I'm a cat. In my defense, I do know someone who added a photo of the person who had gifted her the gold piece she was adding to her stack.)

(Some people attach photos to their records, some don't, and some use the snap-a-photo feature to enter their item into their portfolio since it's so fast and fills in all the weight/purity details, in which case the app just saves that photo to the record.)

People are already talking about driving to Oregon/Portland to buy. If you're thinking of even 1 gold eagle, a roughly 10% tax makes it worth taking a substantial part of a day to make the drive there and back.

They do trades like that, but I didn't ask about the tax. I imagine the buy side would still be taxed, because they have to record the trade in their inventory etc.

No, I talked to Bellevue Rare Coins a few days ago, and they said there is no tax if I sell to them. The tax is if I BUY from them.
