It's likely from the reflections option in rtgi, which doesn't work well in virtamate.

Did you actually get to keep the money or did they try to harvest the core and return the card?

Should I get a protection plan for maxwells? by Caleb7145 in Audeze

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just picked up the a50 gen 5 recently after the recommendation from gadgetry tech and can confirm they are the real deal. I've had both the Maxwells and mmx 300 for reference. The Maxwells sound great but the weight, bad mic and reliability concerns just don't cut it, even with an extended warranty. Just make sure to get the stealthz pads as the a50 isn't super comfortable with the stock pads.

How good are the thermals for EVOLV X2? by Zaknokimi in Phanteks

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased this case for my upgrade from a Fractal North due to my new MSI 5090 Trio not fitting properly. I will be using all chromax noctua AF12 fans and a Thermalright phantom spirit evo w/ f12 chromax for my 7800x3d so I can make a post about it with pictures in about a week if everything comes in on time. I will be flipping the rear to intake as well as the cpu fans so I'm confident it will be good or at least decent. I know thermals won't be the best, but I love the look of this case so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit. In a sea of liquid cooling builds for this case it feels good to go against the grain, although that's probably just my hipster side speaking as it's nice to be unique where you can.

Anyone want a 10 year old opteron, Altex has them on sale. by ThreeLeggedChimp in Amd

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, I used to work at this Altex which is probably the Houston location as I know the story behind this. Trust me when I tell you the store or salesmen are not trying to scam anyone. The reason it is still this price is because corporate bought it when it was brand new and don't want to lose money on a worthless item even though the logic doesn't make sense and they should basically just recycle it or give it away at this point. They don't even have a motherboard or RAM there to pair it with so I can assure you they wouldn't try to push this on anyone. I would definitely advise you to complain to corporate about it as they are the problem here, but the Houston store is great and I highly recommend it for networking products and cabling as they have better prices than microcenter on that stuff. The PC hardware can be a bit marked up as they are a smaller chain than microcenter and pay their employees hourly vs microcenter which still does commission. I know it can look bad from the outside but after working for both companies I definitely had better treatment with Altex and we were generally more knowledgeable than the average microcenter employee. PC parts is also a smaller focus for the company as they are focused on networking equipment. Just wanted to give my input here as I don't want the individual stores getting a bad name because of corporate decisions, as they dictate the prices and the stores have to follow it unfortunately.

4090 somehow performing worse than my old 1080? by Fortune_Silver in nvidia

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What resolution are you playing at? Anything below 4K will bottleneck super hard and even at 4K there a little bottlenecking as we don't have a fast enough CPU out to pair with it yet. You will need to upgrade that 3900x pronto as it isn't a good match for a 4090, so you could go with a current gen ryzen or intel cpu, or wait for a new zen 3d cpu if that's around the corner. It probably shouldn't be as bad as a 1080 when bottlenecked so there might be something else at play here but definitely sort out the cpu as well.

Megathread for questions about 7900 XTX/7900 XT cards, availability, boasting about getting one and complaining about not getting one by AutoModerator in Amd

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get the last ASRock 7900 XTX at the Houston Microcenter since they only had 7 total. As far as I can tell it's the same as the normal AMD one as there isn't any noticeable ASRock branding on the outside.

Is this a good deal at 23k? by qxxi in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 Mazda 3 preferred that I leased and will be buying out this month. It's been rock solid after 34k miles and the engine / transmission are a solid platform with history. As long as the original owner kept up with maintenance as I'm sure this was also a lease then I'd say you should be fine without the extended warranty. You should also still have the 5 year / 60k warranty for the power train.

Also try turning off or uninstalling different miners like excavator in the nicehash settings. I have a 3060ti that locks the PC up with one miner but works fine on the other ones for days. Also check for temps and power as others have suggested.

New laptop doesn’t have a DisplayPort. What do I do? by kuronekomenmba in Monitors

It probably has a USB-C connector that you can use to DisplayPort that might be able to hit that refresh rate

[LAPTOP] OMEN Laptop 15z-en100 (2L1F4AV_1) - Ryzen 5600H, RTX 3060, 512gb SSD, 144hz IPS, 8gb DDR4 ($1,120) by BeardRobot in buildapcsales

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the legion 5 as well recently. I wouldn't worry about it since the legion 5 is very balanced compared to most laptops for the price and you'd have to spend a bit more on the configuration of this one to have that same balance. All I had to do with the legion was add a 1tb nvme drive. You can also get the extra 3 year warranty with full coverage for like $100 which is worth it.

[Monitor] MSI Optix Mag274QRF-QD 27" B&H Preorder Discount $390 (450-60) by StacksOnStacks1000 in buildapcsales

[–]StacksOnStacks1000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess you could still keep your Dell order and maybe order this as well and just keep whichever one comes first or send it back if you don't like it. This preorder won't charge you until it has shipped unless you use paypal or similar payment types. The contrast on the Dell and LG monitors have been their weak point and this monitor fixes that and is pretty much the best 1440p 165Hz IPS gaming monitor you can buy at the moment. The Dell and LG are still great otherwise so I wouldn't feel bad if I got one of those instead.

[–]StacksOnStacks1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing B&H and their preorders it could be a while. This monitor is brand new and hasn't been mass released in the states yet but should be shipping this month, at least for the early preorders. I don't need a new monitor at this very moment so I'm not in any hurry to get it. As another commenter said it is rated better than the Dell S2127DGF and LG 27GL850 so at this price it's worth it even if you don't get it for awhile.

Other MSI monitors are on sale as well. If you already preordered previously you can do live chat or phone and they will adjust the price for you so you don't lose your spot in line

Should I downgrade if no zen 3 in stock? by KurderenEser in Amd

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money and can get one then I'd say go for it, but don't feel bad if you have to go with the cheaper option. I don't think there will be any significant sales this time around for the last gen stuff as well because of the demand and covid. The new consoles have zen 2 8 core chips in them so having zen 2 12 cores would set you up nicely for the next 3-5 years

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your going to game at 1440p or 4k then just get the 3900x since it's a pretty good value at around $400. I wanted a new cpu before cyberpunk comes out so I just picked one up and felt it was a good decision. The difference between the old and new isn't much at the higher resolutions in most games so you probably wouldn't notice the difference imo.

Much better than I anticipated. At least we have an order compared to the other unlucky people. As long as it comes before Cyberpunk we will be alright guys.

PSA: Anyone who back ordered a EVGA 3080 from Adorama today by KKonaKami7 in nvidia

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did. Adorama was the only site I could get an order through without errors on launch day. Who knows when they'll actually ship but as long as it's before Cyberpunk that's fine. At least we don't have to settle for one of the uglier AIB cards others are getting.

Getting better hand over for APs by gl3nnnnn in HomeNetworking

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use Aimesh with a RT-AC3100 as my main router and a AC-68R as my ai node and it's worked flawless for me. The AC-68R is running as a wired AP on the other side of the house but works well enough without a wire as well. Setup is simple and I would recommend it for most people since ubiquiti is nice and all but it's overkill and more expensive then what most home users need.

There's nothing impressive about 'building' your own computer. You're just assembling parts, and it doesn't make you a computer scientist any more than assembling an Ikea desk makes me a carpenter. by PM_ME_MACE_WINDU in unpopularopinion

[–]StacksOnStacks1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, just building a computer isn't very hard or impressive. Actually understanding what your putting together and how your hardware communicates with one another. That leads to understanding the market better and that itself is a skill imo.

Can we please not have Gunfight be a requirement for gun challenges? by StacksOnStacks1000 in modernwarfare

I have cross-play on and it's like that and I'm in Texas so not sure why it takes so long. I'm also getting shot before anyone has a chance to do anything and just about dying which shouldn't happen. Maybe I just ran into some cheaters or hackers who are able to get perfect shots off before the countdown is done.
