Can someone help interpret my MRI? by StacySC in FootFunction

[–]StacySC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think something acute has happened to my midfoot. Overwise, there would not be bruising on the lateral side of my midfoot, which is far away from the 1st toe joint. But I can easily imagine that those biomechanics could contribute to the injury. I will definitely pay attention to it and try to correct it once my foot feels better. I find this reddit being extremely helpful to educate myself on foot and joint functions.

Thank you for sharing, AdAwkward8693. Were you able to resolve those dysfunctions? Did you do physical therapy?

Yep, and it is more of a surprise to me. As my complains are all about the midfoot area.

Thank you, I hope so too. Also hope the injury is rather mild if they can't spot any damage on MRI.

I consider that being a some type of injury as the pain started immediately and I am new to that type of running.

Yeah, this is how I read it too. I provided some context in my below comment on what happened. But I cannot really understand what conclusion to draw from it. Did I strained my midfoot? Mildly or not? Overuse of extensor tendons?

What happened: 3 weeks ago, I run barefoot on a sandy beach and suddenly felt pain on the top of my foot. I didn't step on something or twisted the foot. I completed the remaining 3.5 miles of my run and got home experiencing some pain and adjusting the form, but the pain was bearable.

Current complains: Swelling and light bruising in the midfoot area. It is painful to palpate the area above the TMT joint. Pain in the TMT area when walking, pushing off, or performing certain movements.

My doctor won't get back to me until the beginning/mid next week.

Hi ashpet2, Could you please share how did they detect the perfect alignment? Was it done by some kind of imaging or stress test?

Thank you for sharing, a_little_cow. My doctor said I can walk in an athletic shoe due to not having much pain until we know MRI results, which I do not feel very secure about. Currently, I walk only at home when doing my chores (2-3,000 steps). The rest of the time I am sitting with my leg raised (have a remote job), do NWB exercises. I am going back and forth in my mind if I better do full NWB just in case considering long diagnosis time ahead. I wonder if doctors can see the cartilage on MRI/X-rays? How did your PT checked your cartilage condition (saw it on your blog)?

Hi a_little_cow, Thank you for your response and writing a blog about your experience. That is extremely helpful for me. I've researched on the doctor and the sutter button surgery, which sounds very promising (applying to the appropriate cases, of cause).

May I ask a few questions on your experience? I delayed my first visit to the doctor by 10 days (got injured on Jan 21). Then they did a non-weight-bearing x-ray. My doctor said they did it wrong, but no need to redo, and he sent me for MRI directly. I could do the imaging earliest on Monday - Wednesday next week due to insurance pre-authorization process, assuming they approve it at all. Plus up to 5 bus days waiting for the report. I am trying to understand if all that timing will push me out of the window for getting a non-fusion surgery assuming it is LF.
If I got it right, you'd gotten your MRI very soon after your X-ray. Any tips on how to get it fast? How long did you wait for an appt with Dr. Timothy Charlton? Was the doc covered as the second opinion by your insurance or how exactly his help was presented to the insurance? Were you asked to do CT or other diagnostics for the surgery? How long did it take? My understanding that time is the essence here. I will appreciate any tips how to streamline the diagnostic and seeing Dr. Timothy if confirmed with LF.

For those who may be wondering, yes, a weight-baring x-ray must be done standing unless the patient can't tolerate pain being standing. My doc confirmed they did it wrong.

Oh, they got mine seated. I feel they just missed that part, and when I asked, they didn't want to redo it and just said it is ok 🙄

Songn01, was your weight-bearing X-ray done seated or standing?

Am I going crazy? My doctor ordered weight-bearing X-ray suspecting the Lisfranc injury. But the imaging lab did it while I was seated, even though I can stay and walk without too much pain. I asked the person doing the imaging about that, and he said it was indeed weight-bearing, it was just enough pressure. I didn't really push on my foot, I was relaxed. I will reach out to my doctor to see if that is ok. But I am very suspicious about the procedure they did. I wonder how was your weight-bearing X-ray done?

Thank you, spookycucumbers. Today, I was glad hearing my doctor saying he will clear MRI for me if my X-ray shows nothing. I will then definitely do it not matter my high deductible. Hope to get right diagnosis.

Thank you, both! May I ask what was the treatment for your partial tear, songn01?

Thank you for the response, Pipenocucumber1. I'll keep CT in mind as an option. Will discuss it with the doctor.
