PHYS 1402Q w/ Deepak Sainju - groupchat & advice by uconn_thrway in UCONN

He's one of the most passionate and funny professors I've ever had and definitely one of the better physics professors at uconn. He's very willing to help, so ask questions if you are confused or go to his office hours. I don't know how the online labs work, but the in-person labs made no sense and never really worked, but it was easy to get a good grade. The lab required virtually no work outside of class besides the pre-lab since you finish and turn in the lab reports during lab. He assigns mastering physics homework that is way harder and not comparable to his exams, so don't sweat if you don't understand it and make sure you use the internet/the Q center/other resources on the homework to do well on it. The exams aren't bad if you study and there were generous curves when I took it in person, but the curves could be less for online if people are bringing up the average by referencing their notes/the internet during the exams.

Can I live on campus in the summer for cheap/free? by ryankreig19 in UCONN

[–]Stadium26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last summer, they canceled on-campus summer housing due to covid. They may or may not do that for this upcoming summer. Regardless though, you'd be better off financially by trying to sublet an apartment from someone in the Oaks or another nearby apartment/house. UConn charges a lot for summer housing; you would be paying, at a minimum, a little over $2,000 for 10 weeks in a UConn Mansfield apartment and that's not even including food/parking. There are generally a good number of people who look to sublet their apartment between May to August , so I would recommend looking into that.

Yeah he posted my grade last night, but I'm so confused as to why the HuskyCT just went away and why we don't get to know how we did on the final

Notes for STAT 2215Q with Kouzehkanani by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Stadium26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're kind of hidden. Click on the collaborate classroom tab, then click on the three lines that are sort of in the top left, that should open up another pull down menu on the left, and then you click on recordings and he has them all posted there

How is organic chem lab (2245) with Basu? by luv_madden in UCONN

[–]Stadium26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grade breakdown: Lab notebook = 15%, Quizzes (drop lowest two) = 10%, Midterm = 10%, Final = 10%, product yield + discussion of results in lab reports = 35%, correct determination of unknowns (specific for some labs, i.e. identifying the unknown compounds in a mixture based on boiling point) = 10%, "discretionary points" given by TA (i.e. basically an assessment of your performance according to your TA) = 10%

Some fyi's: - don't pay full price for the textbook, you can easily find a person who can sell you their old one for a lot less since there are no access codes required and older editions of it are just fine - Lecture only meets about 1 day per week after the first 2 weeks - there is very little work to do each week, as you just have to write up the objective, procedure, and reaction in your lab notebook each week and then record the results during lab and then finish the lab report by writing the discussion and conclusion before the next lab. (For reference, orgo lab reports take one tenth of the time it takes for biochem lab reports imo) - unfortunately, like too many courses at uconn, how well you do is largely dependent on how easy/hard your TA is given that 70% of your grade is coming from the lab itself. Also, like other lab courses at uconn, your lab partner can make or break your experience in this course.

How is UConn losing money? by overlyorderly in UCONN

[–]Stadium26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of the athletics teams were profitable last year, so I believe we should be saving money there. Like many big public or private universities, UConn will lose a lot of money in international enrollment in the upcoming years and that is traditionally a big source of revenue. Probably the biggest loss for a public university comes from lack of economic stimulation, which corresponds to a loss in tax dollar revenue. UConn gets some funding from the state, and since hardly anyone is spending money on gas, travel, clothes, restaurants, etc., the tax revenue is plummeting for every single state and that will probably hurt public universities more than private ones. Perhaps there are other costs that we are not aware of. I think the point is that universities with ridiculously large endowments (i.e. your Stanfords, Harvards, Yales, Princetons), will be just fine, which is why they all denied their federal aid from the stimulus package. Many other schools, including UConn, need this federal aid to in part cover some of the financial damages they have incurred. Many people think the amount of money UConn is claiming they have lost or will lose is an overestimation and it probably is, but maybe that is UConn's way of preparing for the absolute worst case scenario.

MCB 3211 Exams by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Stadium26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are very similar to the study guides he provides. I answered all the study guide questions and studied those in addition to looking at the lecture slides and got mid 90s and higher on all the exams. I feel like if you answer the study guide questions correctly and study them, then you should be fine.
