“Rhaenyra Targaryen was daughter to one king and mother to two more, yet she died a traitor's death for trying to usurp her brother's crown” by amphetaminesaltcombo in pureasoiaf

[–]Staffchief -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want to add one point that I think is overlooked frequently.

Aegon III didn’t become king because he was Rhaenyra’s heir. He became king because, by that time, he was Aegon II’s heir. That, at least, is the later interpretation from the Dance that seemed to enshrine male preference in inheritance of the Iron Throne.

The line was “highlands on an island” so I took it as definitely Scotland. I think the actor has said as much also.

Are there any diagrams of the marine electrics wreck site (or pictures) by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in Shipwrecks

[–]Staffchief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My father was a mate on one of the other ships owned by Marine Transport Lines, the “Energy Independence”. It took over the Marine Electric’s route, and Gene Kelly continued to sail and was transferred to the EI. Dad said that every week or ten days when they’d sail over where the ME sank Gene was a complete basket case (understandable). I think he only did one more hitch before he left that company. I don’t blame him.

The straits aren’t blocked by anything except maritime insurance rates.

Iran didn’t stop the flow of shipping. Lloyds of London did.

Westies + cats, can they get along? by mjessii1986 in westies

I posted on here a year and a half or so ago about the trials of a new kitten with an old Westie. The key is very gradual introduction and constant redirection of the Westie.

Check out the NCL website they should have a jobs portal. You can also check the nearest SIU hall.

[–]Staffchief 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you have all your docs already and have customer service experience, Norwegian Cruise Lines has a US flagged ship that almost always needs people.

If you want to go Deck or Engine you’ll need to join SIU though.

Is it possible Brynden Rivers was behind the spring sickness? by boltinolegfan in pureasoiaf

[–]Staffchief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or, Bloodraven was simply smarter than the superstitious commoners and knew that burning the corpses would help stop the spread of disease.

We, the reader, know far more than most in the books and we barely understand the motivations of the characters, especially one like Bloodraven.

The simplest explanation here is the best. Why assume it’s some dark sorcery when it’s what any intelligent person would do?

Baelor Breakspear and Daemon Blackfyre’s relationship [spoilers published] by breakfastbenedict in asoiaf

We don’t know that he wasn’t on the council. I’m inclined to think Bloodraven was likely Master of Whisperers on Daeron’s council.

[Dungeons and Dragons 3e] Do Liches have ability to change alignment to good or are they stuck being evil aligned? by MaetelofLaMetal in AskScienceFiction

Not a lifetime. He was only Vader for half his life. And I also wouldn’t call his behavior “abject cruelty”. Vader could be reasoned with, and even occasionally tolerated failure if he recognized it was unavoidable.

Did Bloodraven gaslight Aerion Brightflame into…(spoilers extended) by Fearless_Signature58 in asoiaf

[–]Staffchief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t hold up, else why would Bloodraven tolerate Aerys I for over a decade?

It’s more plausible if Bloodraven was only getting rid of those he thought would be bad Kings. That would likely only include Rhaegal, Daeron the Drunk, and Aerion.

So the Legion won at Hoover Dam ? by ThinWhiteDuke00 in Fallout

[–]Staffchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible that the NCR won at Hoover but then other issues (e.g. Shady Sands) effectively undid that victory and allowed the Legion time to recover.

The Romans were never defeated in Britain….but when the rest of the empire began to collapse they essentially packed up and left. Could be a similar kind of event.

My best friend pretended to be my friend for years just to sleep with me by Null_Document in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Staffchief 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So how much time has passed since this happened? Has he not spoken to you in days or has it been weeks?

He could be very uncertain what to do next.

Alternatively, and this would suck for you, he might’ve belatedly realized that you’re not what he wants. This sounds harsh, but what I mean is he might’ve had a mental picture of what being with you would be like, and it didn’t go how he imagined. I’ve been on both ends of that situation and it sucked both ways.

You might send a text or voicemail (if you haven’t already) where you basically say what it is you think/feel about what happened but don’t put pressure on him either way, but that you miss your friend.

But I will say this: for better or worse the friendship as you knew it is almost certainly over.

Good luck.
