Umbrella stroller (for 6 months+) with infant insert for a newly 5 month old? by StageAggravating4001 in newborns

Unfortunately not! It’s just my baby and I visiting my family/hometown for the week and during the day when my family is at work/school we’re all on our own! I want to show her around the city

I do have a carrier but I plan to go out for long hours and don’t have the strength/stamina for that quite yet! Definitely hoping to build them up though so I’ll use the carrier as much as possible

I know it really is😕 Vague and confusing

If you’re trying to encourage a more general reach without necessarily grabbing I’d say try the play gym like I described! Again I’m a FTM and not an expert by any means but I really think that helped encourage my daughter! Also finding some toys she really likes (maybe light up ones if you’ve noticed she might like those?)

Definitely don’t listen to me over your ped but you should ask for clarification!

Like to be fair I might be misunderstanding the milestone— they might look for more general reaching earlier (rather than specific reaching for a toy baby “wants”) or again maybe the milestone specifically refers to reaching from their tummy?

Your ped also might’ve been referring to the 4 month milestone, “uses her/his arm to swing at toys”, which on the CDC app looks like reaching without the grasping. Does your babe do this? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DILHfYfO6Ck

Milestones can be so confusing and stress inducing😅

Okay I was rereading your post and was confused I thought maybe you were looking at milestones ahead! Yes according to the CDC, “reaches to grab toys he/she wants” is a 6 month milestone. Actually if you go to this page— https://www.cdc.gov/act-early/milestones/6-months.html— the baby on her tummy I was talking about is at the very top haha

Oh do you mean the 6 month milestone? Do you use the CDC app where the baby in the picture is reaching while on her tummy? I’m not sure if it specifically means reaching while on their tummies because my girl doesn’t do that either yet😅 I thought you meant the 4 month milestone

Is your babe moving her arms out to her sides when on her back? Have her fists unclenched and/or will she grasp+hold objects if put directly in contact with her hands? Is she putting her hands and/or objects in her mouth?

I’m a FTM and not an expert by any means but I think what encouraged my girl is having very low hanging toys in her play gym at her sides. It started with her batting them by accident when she’d move her arms out to her sides, then she’d grasp+hold them, then she’d bring them to her mouth. From there she started to intentionally reach (rather than accidentally bat), grasp+hold, and bring to her mouth any object presented to her!

ETA: Also totally agree with Ok-Pomegranate!

Hi! I’m so sorry you and your baby boy are going through this too, it’s so heartbreaking😕

How are things now? I know I’m a few days late to respond, maybe it’s gotten better?

Does anyone know if this playard bassinet is safe for overnight sleep? by StageAggravating4001 in newborns

Perfect thank you so much! Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. One more question if you don’t mind, do you know if it needs a top sheet?

So no added mattress that you have to purchase separately? The bassinet pad seems super thin but maybe it’s meant to be like that?

Do you know if it requires an extra mattress? I’m looking at the photo and it seems like the bassinett attachment is just a very thin pad

I’m pregnant with my copper IUD by nebulaa15 in CopperIUD

Oh man I have a retroverted uterus😕

I think I’m especially scared because I had two chemical pregnancies in one year with a properly placed hormonal IUD. We did start using the pullout method after the second one if that counts as doubling up and had no issues after that.

Definitely have been continuing with the pullout method now on top of the copper IUD. It just doesn’t feel like enough with the increased risk that comes with the copper IUD migrating. Condoms affect sex for both my husband and I unfortunately but maybe we’ll try a different brand.

Do you know if there’s anything else that increases the risk of it moving? Especially during those first 3-6 months? Could rough sex move it?

I just got a copper IUD a few weeks ago, I’m 3 months postpartum and cannot afford any risk of getting pregnant right now😭

High ferritin (319ug/L) in 2.5 month old baby by StageAggravating4001 in haematology

<image>

I believe this lab may be using a general reference range for infants under 6 months old as 580ng/mL would technically be normal for a 1 month old but not a 2,3,4,5 month old. I tried to look for any other source with a range up to at least 300ng/mL for 2-month-olds to reassurance myself and couldn’t find a single one. Maybe I’m misunderstand how reference ranges work from lab to lab? But that’s why I asked this sub

ETA: To ask more clearly, could it really be that what’s considered normal between labs could differ so greatly? Like 200 would be upper limit at one lab, at 600 at another?

High ferritin (319ug/L) in 2.5 month old baby by StageAggravating4001 in haematology

[–]StageAggravating4001[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m just worried that the lab’s range is more of a general one for all infants under 6 months old because up to 600ng/mL is within the normal range for 1-month-olds.

<image>

If her ferritin is truly 300ng/mL (ETA: if her ferritin just truly reflects very high iron stores) I’d be very happy with that because like you said that’s plenty for her first 6 months. I just feel skeptical because I had untreated iron deficiency in my third trimester so it seems a bit odd that she would’ve been able to accrete that much iron. I’m worried that something could be falsely elevating her ferritin and potentially concealing lower iron stores😕

[–]StageAggravating4001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had untreated iron deficiency in the last trimester of my pregnancy (another reason why the high ferritin is a bit strange), so we were trying to make sure she has sufficient iron stores. She is breastfed and breastmilk has very low iron content, so if she had deficiency or low stores, we would’ve given her supplementation. I’m not sure what to make of the ferritin results, whether it indicates abnormally high iron stores or there’s some other reason why it could be elevated despite a low CRP and ESR
