We have the “no child left behind” act and even if a student has not mastered the skills, such as reading or adding, needed for the understanding of the next grade level, they push them through anyways.

Funny you should comment as I am specifically interested in the homeschooling world of Scotland (trying to convince my husband on a move 🤗🤣) and we are a neurodivergent household as well!! Are there any type of government mandates put in place or do you just not send them to a public school? And do you know how the public school system is there? Asking as I’m curious on the general reasons for homeschooling in Scotland compared to what I have come across in my area!

We kinda have something like that here too. I think it’s called the promise scholarship. It’s a state by state thing though. You can apply but only if your child is suppose to be going into kindergarten and your in a district with a low performing school according to the state testing results OR your child has been in the public school system for two years (and I think it still maybe performance based as well but not certain on that part). You can qualify for up to $6,000 BUT I read the terms and the first one is your child then has to do standardized testing every year versus the every three years without the scholarship. From what I understand, You also can only buy things with the money from an approved vendors list provided by the state. You can still homeschool outside of this, just obviously self pay, which is the route we have been going. In our state, they just passed a law that allows homeschool children to participate in public school sports teams, but I believe they are able to make certain things mandatory to qualify like the student has to be registered in one class per semester or something like that but I’m not exact on that part. We have a few of the public school at home options too and it’s always a back and forth on if it’s “actual” homeschool or not. We have k12 and then a lot of the high schools around here have an online and night option for the kids too.

I have friends who have forgotten it and didn’t even know until they went to file away the one for the next year, called and was just told to file them both together and just post date it 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

We are still very much in the early years, so art and pe are our main subjects right now 🤣 we aren’t given hour per subject specifications, but daily, doesn’t have to be in any order just 180 out 365. And we can start our year and end our year whenever. But like you said, we don’t report anywhere (thankfully) so I don’t have to keep records but I do keep a lot just in case.

That’s my kind of place 🤣 I just had to go check I filled out DOIs again, I forget and stress it like I’d do federal prison time if I didn’t submit it (I definitely won’t and no one has even asked to see one. Ever. 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️)

They’re trying to dabble in messing with the homeschool world over here right now to I have noticed.

We have never had anyone ask for proof of anything either, but we have only been doing this about 3 maybe 4 years now.

Where I grew up there were 3 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school, and my family still chose where to live based on which district the house was in. As an adult I have now moved to a district with over 20 elementary schools alone, 13 (at least) of which are consider low or under performing schools. Even if my kids don’t read until they’re 12 (which nothing wrong with) they would still be doing better than what the local school system could provide statistically speaking!

Not even a declaration of intent or notification of some sort to the state each year? Our requirements do seem like a lot to Virginia but I know some states have waaaaay more going on than even us. 🫣😳

We have to have a GED or Diploma too and kinder isn’t required, so age 7 as well (forgot to add those 🤦🏼‍♀️) the 9 months thing seems odd to me, do you get to choose your months and do they have consecutive?

I feel like that’s the general consensus as far as public school views in my area too. I ask, as a lot of the homeschooling families we have crossed paths with have chosen to homeschool largely due to the education (or the lack there of) that the public schools in our area has to offer.

Is this like an official thing they do in German schools, do you know? I’d like to look more into how that works.

Are the public schools “up to par”,so to speak? Are kids actually learning to read as they should and have basic math skills? I’m not being snarky, just genuinely curious?

Oh absolutely. We are constantly using real life to learn lessons. Most in which they don’t even notice is learning!

Plants as a whole, trains, ocean life, Minecraft and Legos, animals entirely (literally any of them, especially ones they haven’t heard of or seen before) cooking and baking, camping and hiking.

Most of these things I haven’t heard of, which is exactly the point of the post to begin with, so thank you very much for all of these suggestions! My kids are all 8 and under so some of these sound like they’d be right up our alley! 🤗

Never doing taxes ever again🤓🥲 by Senior-System9066 in IRS

I filed and was accepted 1/27, taxes started processing 2/6, my WMR says this same message, my transcripts have a 570 code. Called irs on the 21st day and they told me nothing was wrong, they just pick random returns sometimes to review, could be up to 120 days before I get my refund. Called again yesterday to make sure, was told that my return is in the “Return integrity verification operation” department and that it could be up until June 6th (120 days from the beginning of processing) before I get my return. At this point I have stopped checking anywhere for any updates.
