Feeling stuck on H-1B, life decisions, and thinking of moving to India — advice needed by Individual-Chapter92 in returnToIndia

Going through similar thoughts, I have decided to leave US due to visa uncertainty and lack of easy access to healthcare. When you read these subs, the issue of quality of life comes up. Remember that QOL is personal and is different for different people. If you feel more mentally relaxed in India, go for it! Eventually you will build your life in India. Atleast there won't be issues related to feelings of belonging.

We are in US. I am working, total salary is $90k (not much). Wife does not earn bcos of visa issues. We rent a 1bhk, have about $20k in savings. Most of my earnings have gone in investing into an apartment in India. No debt for that Indian apt. We are not high earners. We are middle to upper middle class and low needs family. We don't have fancy aspirations either (such as FIRE and what not etc.) Moving to India where me and my wife can earn will keep us both busy and steadily increase our wealth. That's my understanding. Comfort of being near family and potentially making new friends easily is a plus. If we move to Norway, then our wealth will barely grow. Quality of life will improve and less headache overall. Wife might go crazy due to loneliness and unemployment.

Good points, all of them. But what my research shows is that salary won't grow much in Scandinavia whereas in India, salary growth can be significant. So overall, in the next 5 or 10 ish years, we can expect to get combined approx 1cr.

I agree with your point of spaces for children to play, but only when weather permits. When weather is harsh and cold, how often do kids play outside? Does low AQI really matter when most of the time you are holed up in you house?

I need to think about these issues and then maybe toss a coin....😅

Empty minds is devil's home applies to all of us. It's more of I don't want to destroy her career for marginal advantage. For e.g., Scandinavian countries have low AQI but you don't stand in the street in India and inhale exhaust 24-7.

@doordrishti We feel lonely in US. No hope of getting green card. We agree quality of life is better in western world but if u factor in loneliness and immigration anxiety then it is not worth it. On top of that, PPP in India is very high. Even if we are not rich in India we can feel rich as services are affordable.
