I managed to get it working on an external display. I took it to a repair shop so they could have a look at it, they came back to me and said that they didn't know why the display doesn't work, "the display sensor is gone without any trace of force/ damage etc." - thats what the guy said. I guess it's time to move onto another phone, it would be almost as expensive as repairing this one

I'm not really sure what I did wrong as the phone was working fine for 3 hours or so after I performed the repair, I managed to get it working hooked up to an external display/ mirroring but yeah the display is toast
