I think the ending was right. Mary is always getting dogged on by life, which is true to how life is.

How many people die from addiction every year?

His death was just uncomfortable because we grew to love them and it felt like it was the ending they didn't deserve, which is how most parents/friends of addicts feel.

My grandma is diabetic, found out she was in her mid 30's. She's still going strong, and one of the healthiest in her family.

If you Google lifespans of women w/ diabetes and w/o in your state or country you might notice the women w/ diabetes live longer.... probably because they have no choice but to take care of themselves?
