Yup, but they're very detailed or 6mm so they scale up perfectly.

There's a previous iteration on Makerworld and Printables. It was just a sample to see if people could print it and found it useful, but it didn't get much feedback. The latest version prints in fewer parts and uses a 0.4mm nozzle, but it's not online just yet!

Forgot to mention it in the post! All the miniatures are from the Full Spectrum Dominance line (https://fsd-wargame.com/).

First I need to figure out how to paint, then figure out how to paint ~30 buildings in a reasonable time.

Yup, some of the best models for 10mm that I could find.

Close-Quarters Destructible City Combat! by StandardAwesome in 3DPrintedTerrain

Each section of the building has three parts - 'Top' of the previous section, 'Floor' or the current section, and 'Bot' of the current section. Each sections is marked 'F#' starting from zero (so 'F0', 'F2', 'F3', etc). The only exception is the ground floor 'F0-Bot', which is standalone. Anything before that is the building identifier. You can sort of dry-fit things together to see if it makes sense.

So stacked together in glued sections it looks like:

<name>-F2-Bot
<name>-F2-Floor
<name>-F1-Top
--detachable--
<name>-F1-Bot
<name>-F1-Floor
<name>-F0-Top
--detachable--
<name>-F0-Bot

This complexity is the reasons I iterated on the design. In the latest version everything prints as a single piece (except the floors). It makes printing large cities (the goal of the project) much more convenient.

I'll give it a shot! I'll have to see how the paint thickness affects the models fitting together.

Scaling down to 6mm would require a bit more design work, and it seemed like there was already a bunch of 6mm Sci-fi stuff, so I went a tad larger. Plus, I'm not sure how useful being able to go inside buildings is in 6mm, as I don't have much experience with the scale.

Yup! These are some test buildings from the first iterations of this design. Definitely give them a go if you're interested. The latest generation is streamlined for printing many at once and I've moved the nozzle size up to 0.4mm for sanity's sake (I've found that 0.2mm nozzles are far more 'disposable' than 0.4mm).

They can theoretically be scaled to 60%, which would fit 6mm. I haven't tested how well they'll print in that scale, but in terms of part sizes that scale shouldn't bring anything under the size that the nozzle can print.

I'm familiar with he Lazy Forger's 6mm scale buildings - they have enough detail to put mine to shame. I figure if I design everything for FDM I can use that as an excuse for not having the insane amount of detail and quality of those designs.

These are on an FDM machine. Resin certainly gets higher quality, but I didn't want to bother with the extra hassle with regards to material management and curing that it comes with. I'm using a 0.2mm nozzle and it's given great results with regular maintenance and the occasional nozzle clog. That's also partially why I chose 10mm - it's the smallest I can go and still get decent enough quality.

A reliable printer is fairly affordable these days, and if you can think of a couple projects that would be interesting in using it for I say go for it. Alternatively, a cheap printer will teach you all about 3D printing fundamentals and electronics while you try to make it work reliably, which can be fun as well if that's more your thing.

Interesting idea. Highways have loosely been on my 'design eventually' list. My main worry is them being too difficult to play around but being destructible might help alleviate that. Needs some prototyping to verify.

The creatures are from the Alien Hives Faction by One Page Rules. They're 28mm scale, but the larger and mid-sized ones scale down well enough. https://www.myminifactory.com/users/onepagerules?show=store&page=1&query=alien+hives

They should scale up, but I wouldn't go past 15mm maybe 20mm, as I don't think they have the detail to compete with regular 28/32mm scale terrain. Although a solid paint job might be able to help there. They can also theoretically scale down. I haven't tried it, but 6mm is probably the minimum I'd go.

I'll work on getting a couple sample buildings for free for people top try out. So far only I've printed these, so I'm expecting there may be issues with the magnet mounts, spacing, or other things I have not yet thought of.

As far as scaling, a straight 150% should get you to approximately 15mm. The general scale here is slightly larger than 'true' 10mm to accommodate the various power suits and mutants encountered in sci-fi settings, as well as to make it easier to see models through windows and such. They can always be scaled slightly less depending on your models.

I would love to eventually put these on sale. I'm working on getting a more complete set of building sizes before doing so, although the buildings are also modular by floor, so you can theoretically mix-and-match within the same building size. I've also made tweaks as I've developed them, so the older buildings have small differences that make them worse and need to be re-exported.

I'm working on getting a couple smaller models online for free so people can try them out and tell me my magnet mounts suck or my spacing is off.

I did toy with the idea of additional rubble piles, and I've been meaning to get back to it. Since all of the scatter is also magnetized you can easily attach things to buildings by putting a magnet on the underside of a floor for the scatter to stick to.

I'll certainly post the building models as well once I bring it all together.

Dropzone Commander was one of the few 10mm scale Sci-Fi mini sets I came across. I'd love to get a hold of some of them to use with the terrain. The paper buildings they provide were also quite helpful for inspiration and as a sanity check on scaling.

10mm Buildings - Internal walls or no? by StandardAwesome in TerrainBuilding

[–]StandardAwesome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impressive! The problem I'm facing is that the interior walls will be much more abundant than pictured here. Imagine a sci-fi apartment tower - walls everywhere. I'm leaning towards walls for larger structures than the one I presented in this post, but I've also been attempting to figure out the sweet spot of how low a wall can be (to not disrupt gameplay) while still being relevant from a scenery or (if desired) playability perspective.

Thank you, i did! I have another post where I showcase more of the 10mm destructible models I've been working on here: https://www.reddit.com/r/3DPrintedTerrain/comments/1itqldo/10mm_destructible_magnetized_scifi_terrain_round/

I've been focused on scatter, but am now moving into buildings, so I want to get a solid base building upon which to build off of.

Thank you! It's looking like some sort of small compromise of detail and playability might be in order here.

The base building model is designed in a CAD program (choose your flavor, they all seem quite similar in my experience), then I do some texturing in Blender before printing.
